Can Anyone Suggest A Cheap / Free Pick-Me-Up?

Options
Im feeling really low today with one thing or another.....all linked to my debts. Delays (on my part) regards to my new bank account, my wages having to go into my old account (too late to stop them), trouble & delays gaining recent statements with correct balances from my lenders with a tight deadline to get them to the csss, confusion regards to what to do regards to my creditors i.e letters etc and work has been HELL.

One thing i am enjoying a little in a very strange way is not spending money, whilst in boots today i could of easily picked up a 'bargain' or two but i question ever near purchase i was about to make and in the end just got my prescription. I felt in control of my spending for the first time in ages.

Anyway...sorry Im rambling.....I was just wondering what you do for a cheap / free pick me up? Or can you suggest anything? Nine years is a long time to feel this sh*ty! :(

Thanks

  • Sorry you have had not such a good day hon.

However, going to Boots and not spending money as you usually would it definitely taking control of your spending - well done!

You should be proud of yourself hon, you know your situation and are doing something about it.

Did you get some bubblebath for xmas? If so pour yourself a bath and chill out in the tub for a while and remind yourself how well you are doing.

    Hey Pixie1

Sorry to hear that you are feeling down. I know it must feel like you have a mountain to climb BUT you are on the right path and you should congratulate yourself for that.

Here's my suggestions for some cheap/free pick me ups:

A nice long bath always cheers me up. Put on some relaxing music and soak your blues away!

Or maybe go for a walk. At this time of year it is important to get some daylight so make sure you get out and about during the day AND the excercise will do you the world of good!

Have you got any friends that are dvd/video-a-holics? It's better than going to Blockbusters I think!

If I think of anymore.... :) ....I'll let you know!

    Ta care

watch a comedy video.. or see if any of the pubs hold a comedy open night mike to go and watch they usually only charge a small door fee and can be a scream... or book into the salon at local college for a mega cheap massage ( no need to be shy theyve seen it all before) .. do some painting, go to a gallery most of them are free to look around ... go help out at a homeless hostel that will make you feel humble as well as pick you up ... help a friend out in need - guarenteed to give a bit of a feel good factor .... or you canjust do what i do and eat choclate!!!
:EasterBun ...what more do I need to say?!
its all in the name of medical science.
  • Hi Pixie

Be kind to yourself, you have problems but you can get through this.

I would yes have a bath or go for a walk or chill out to some music, but I would also tell myself that I am doing well. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are strong and capable and coping. Then put some lavender water in a spray bottle and spray your bedroom. Moisturise your bod, paint your toes and brush your hair till it shines. Get into cozy pj's and snuggle down with a dvd, book, cd or anything that you like to do.

Lavender water is just water with a little lavender oil in. I get mine from bodyshop £3.50 for a bottle. I am sure that the guys on here will know where to get it from cheaper.

Do as much or as little of the above as you like. If needed put a notice on your bedroom door. "Zone of Peace and Tranquility - Keep Out"

Love yourself - you are doing well.

oh give it time in a few months you will be buzzing that you didnt spend the money... :rotfl:

plan your weekends to do some walking and you will feel that you have acheived something when you complete the walk, you will also be so tired and exhausted you wont be worried about anything except a hot bath and warm bed.
its entirely free and you will feel that you have done something over the weekend instead of feeling you have only avoided going to the shops. local authorities often have warden led walks if your not sure where to go you just meet up and a gang of you go off the warden makes sure you are safe and sound and dont get lost.

for the evening a nice bubble bath and early night, it may not cheer you up immediately but you will feel better for it in the morning.

and finally dont worry if you do feel down in the dumps, it happens to us all, eat chocolate, shout loudly, stamp your feet and have a good cry.
    Ready to Go Go!

I agree with a lot of the others. A lovely bath makes you feel special. Run it hot (but not piping) and pour in some bubble bath or bath oil. If you have any, add a few drops of pure Lavender aromatherapy oil. Very calming and relaxing. Listen to music as you lay and relax. Think about how lucky you are in so many ways. Count your blessings instead of sheep. Then get into your favourite jimmy's and curl up on the sofa and watch your favourite film or select an appropriate programme on TV. Turn the mobile off, the ringer on the house phone. Close the curtains. Make a nice cuppa or have a small glass of wine if you have any. Just have a 'me' night.

I do this quite often and it's amazing how it re-charges you and makes you feel happy.

    hi pixie

can i send you a little present to cheer you up? i'm affraid i'm a giver and am happier when giving to others, so you'd give me a smile and hopefully i'll give you one :D
it won't be much as i'm poor too, but hopefully it'll be something nice to open
  • Sweet idea, moo!

Why not spend the evening on the freebies board, and dreaming about how you're going to use all those freebies (if pick-me-up related, like the free samples Original Source often give away) or flog them on Ebay if you don't really want them yourself :p
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
