oh yes, of course!! I didnt think of the quick questions thread because it was fairly new when I slipped off the boards for my enforced break over the last few months. I've never looked at it

I'm not sre what the answer is but I hardly read the GC thread now as it is just too big to keep up with . I do the challenge for myself now and just post my aims for the month etc. A thread for special offers where we can quickly look up some bargains people have found without all the chat would be very useful to me!Do what you love :happyhear0

Hiya guys, I have only used the forums since june and love the GC as is, ok don't shoot me. I and many others when we ist arrive who arn't techies don't know how to use them and It's the 1st time I've even been on any forum/chatroom, but felt very safe and welcome here.
It is ignorance on my part that means I do/did things wrong, can't find my way around and don't know how to use/do things on the comp and have probably been guilty of posting too chatty posts.
There are lots of people like me who could come look and be/have been put off by lack of friendlyness.
There are alot more people coming here so the posts are bound to go up, and yes maybe we could stop posting pictures and things but please don't stop it being the wonderful freindly welcoming place that it is.
It has helped me and many other people loads and if you make things too complicated we may get lost and it would be so sad for me to lose this place

I have been doing the GC since January. Initially I thought it was fab, partly because it kept me on track, but also because of the fab recipes that people posted , that gave me loads of ideas. Lately there have been very few recipe ideas or even details of good prices for specific items. I try to keep up with reading it, but must confess to posting very infrequently, due to the number of posts, but also the irrelevance of a lot of other posts. The days of copying and pasting recipes have been over for 2-3 months. I don't like the idea of restricting the number of posts an individual can do each day, as it seems a bit dictatorial. However I realise things can't continue. What I can say is I have saved loads of money by following the GC, and still track my own spending and strive to achieve the targets I've set, but the thread doesn't work quite so well for me at the moment. I think this is in part due to the huge cost of food now and the fact that we are all struggling to reduce costs, and the desire for members of the GC to do this.
Well I've rambled enough and not said anything constructive, or given any answers or solutions, but the GC does work when used appropriately. I hope it doesn't disappear though. :rolleyes:0 -
I have also stopped posting on the GT for the reasons already mentioned. In my opinion, and please forgive me if I tread on any toes, but I have never understood why every one has to declare their targets so that they go in the first post. I for one never read it anyway. Surely it is better to just have your target in your siggy as some peeps already do and its easier to see how everyone is doing without having to refer back to the first post.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Hi everyone,
We have been reading your posts and trying to work out the best way forward. Clearly part of the problem is that the Grocery Challenge thread is extremely popular as it is, so we would prefer not to change it too much.
However, we do think that as some people are getting overwhelmed by the length of the thread we do need some posting guidelines. Please remember these will be guidelines to make the thread easier for everyone to use. They are NOT rules.
We’ve drawn up a draft of these and would appreciate your input on whether or not anything needs to be added or removed. If the majority of GC users agree, these guidelines will be added to the GC each month.
Guidelines for posting on the Grocery Challenge thread.
What is the Grocery Challenge thread?
This is a thread where people who are taking part in the Grocery Challenge can post for help encouragement and support and talk about anything related to grocery shopping. We ask that you try to keep on topic and post things that are relevant to the challenge.
Posting grocery budgets and spends for the month
Some people like to post their grocery budget and final spend for each month. If you wish to be included in the master list then please post these in red and in a large font as this makes it easier for the volunteers to keep a record of everyone’s totals.
Number of posts
In order to make the thread easier to read it would be helpful if users would try not to post multiple posts in quick succession.
Chat
Chatty posts that are relevant to the Challenge are fine. Irrelevant chat or posts simply saying ‘Good morning/Goodnight’, ‘just popping on to say hello’, ‘I’ve sent you a pm’ etc aren’t, as they clutter up the thread and may be removed to make the thread easier for others to read.
If you want to say thanks to another user please use the thanks button and please post any chat not related to the Grocery Challenge into the Daily Thread or use the pm function.
No Spend days (NSD’s)
A number of people like to record that they have had a no spend day. Again to reduce the number of posts we would ask that rather than post just that you had a no spend day you record it in your signature and/or add it to a post that is directly relevant to the Grocery Challenge.
Pictures
Please keep these relevant to the challenge. While photographs of produce or cooking are great, pictures of semi-naked men or large clip art aren’t.
Bargains
Please don’t forget to check out the Grabbit and Shop but Don’t drop boards for any bargains and the Discount Codes 'n Vouchers (online & offline) board to see if there are any current vouchers around.
Questions about recipes, freezing, techniques etc
These don’t always fit into the Grocery Challenge. There are a number of threads where it may be more appropriate to ask questions. There is a wealth of information available on the Old Style board so please do a search to see if there is a better thread for your question. For more help with searching see here or feel free to send a private message to a board who will be happy to help.

Hi pink
That looks spot on to me... :j enough Guide lines to help control things, but not enough to put newbies off :T-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Seems pretty fair to me too....but would it be OK if--eg MrsMc, Angelnikki or Rosieben--were to copy & paste every now & then throughout the month? My memory is like a sieve with holes where the supports should be at the best of times, so I could do with a reminder too
As HereWeGo says, I still cannot believe the amount of knowledge there is around these threads & often stumble across nuggets of information when looking for something completely different. I know I could do a search [if I knew how to of course] but sometimes don't use the correct phrase or wording to take me where I need to go, so these sorts of mini index pages are ideal for newbies to a different forum.
Having said that, perhaps a brief BMF-proof guide to how to insert links, do sigs & change font would be helpful too, as a fair few posters also ask. On the whole tho girls, I :T you & Many Thanks for listening to our points of view.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
