To routeplan anywhere in France you need to either buy the city navigator cd for about £170 plus an sd card for £20 or you can buy a pre-loaded card like this one for £90:

I think a better option for going to europe is buy a TomTom ONE for £250 then get a france map for £40 or europe for £80. The advantage of this route is that you end up with a better GPS unit as it has a touch screen and a newer more sensitive GPS receiver.

I own an i3 and its great but not if your planning to go to europe because of the extra cost.

The cheapest all in one sat nav with europe mapping i know of is this Navman 510 Premium at £235incl p&p(Says Grade A, so i guess its a refurbished item but it does have a 12 month warranty).

Kwiksave and Somerfield also have Medion PPC150/Mitac Mio 168/Micromaxx PocketPC SatNav for £129.99 reduced from £229.99.

That and the £99.99 i3 are definite Grabbits!

  • I would love a sat nav as I can get lost in a paper bag. I dont do many unknown journeys so only need something basic. Is the Garmin portable ie can it be used as a hand held street navigator. Is the screen difference between the tomtom one and the garmin much different as my sight is not brilliant. Halfords were keen to sell me the tomtom as touchscreen easy, is the garmin easy to program with the keys? Help would be MOST appreciated.

  • I just bought an i3 from Staples on their 110% price match and got it for £92.99, tried it out this afternoon, its fantastic. Its small but the screen is very easy to see when you are driving, very easy to program too, you just use a scroll wheel like on a mouse to put the postcode in, takes two mins max. I've downloaded for free the speed camera warnings too, overall I cant fault it at all, when you consider this was £199 last September, grab it while you can.

Got an I3 from Somerfields yesterday.

Have only used a friends Navman 510 before and actually think this is better.

Full postcode search works brilliantly. Its a great size, very handy to pop into a glove compartment, handbag etc. Very clear screen, voice prompts are clear too. The main thing people talk about is the scroll wheel. You could not have a touch sensitive screen on such a small device anyway and using the wheel is easy. Its certainly preferable to using a stylus on a PDA type screen, like the medions, mio, navman types and once youve set a journey you shouldnt need to tocuh it anyway.

Its a steal at this price......

NM - How do you switch on the cameras by default so they are picked up and it navigates you through frm A to B?

also where does the sd card go, I dont know what sd card I have and does it matter?

    Viney,

You can't show the POI's as you drive, it will warn you however if you approach them and have requested an alert.

For example if you drive from A - C (and there is a speed camera at B) the system will warn you as you approach 'B' (and keep beeping if you are over the speed limit).

    Hope this helps.

Just missed the last unit at my local Somerfield. Does that now make Woolies cheapest at £144.
  • Hi,

Although Big W has them on sale you can try ebay as there are lots on there and you will probabally get them cheaper the Big W.
