Hey, right, I see I've been beaten to it.

Yes is the answer, as you can see :) and I'll merge this question into our main slow cooker thread shortly.

I've cooked a gammon joint in the sc before and it came out lovely! I just covered it with some water, then cooked on high for around 5 hours.

I found that after cooking for about 4 hours on high it just fell apart. And husband had real problems trying to carve it so we could have slices and not bits.

    But it did taste nice.

My dad (who used to be a chef), just boils it in water for about 20 minutes and drains all the scum off before putting it in the slow cooker.

My mum boils hers up 3 times for about 5/10 mins ago throwing the water each time and then bungs in it the oven for an hour or two. The reason for above is that she does not soak it. So it gets rid of the salt.

But then she has a woodburning rayburn. Guess who uses when she goes up to visit to cook stuff

  • Mum has just called me asking if i have instructions for her slow cooker as she can't find hers.

She wants to cook a joint of Gammon in hers and wants to know times and how to etc.

The weight of the joint of 1.65lbs.

My SC instructions didn't say, probably cos its a small one. But I said to her I will find out and get back to her. "What on that site your always on about?" Yep, that's the one.:snow_grin

Please help, Mum is standing by, awaiting my call!!

    Thanks.

Put the gammon in a pan and cover with cold water. Bring to boil, drain and rinse. Stand in Slo-Cooker and cover with boiling water. Cook for the 4-5 hours. Drain and allow to sool slightly before removing skin. Wrap tightly in kitchen foil or film. Put into refrigerator until well chilled. Coat fat with toasted breadcrumbs before serving.
  • I will cut and paste it over to Mum. Thank you. I did check out the mega index but timing wasn't stated. She will be pleased.
