How patient are you with non paying buyers?

I'm waiting another three days and then this auction will be a month old and still no action from the buyer. He's replied to a few emails saying "yes I'll come and collect it soon". I'm usually very patient, but I see that he's been busy buying other stuff since this auction ended.

I obtained his contact details (via advanced search) today and I've just left a voice mail message.

I'm about to start the non paying bidder dispute, but I'll wait until the month comes up.

  • If he's collecting in person, I presume it's more a case of wanting the thing out of your way rather than concerns about the small amount of money. I'd give him a deadline and say that, because you need to be able to use your storage space as efficiently as possible, particularly with Christmas rapidly approaching, you cannot keep it for him beyond a certain specified date in the near future, and he must either arrange to collect it or pay for it to be posted, by your deadline.

Oh, I waited 6 weeks for another buyer once, he kept sending mails saying he was going to pay soon etc, and then he did at the end!

I kept phoning up another NPB for about 4 weeks and in the end he finally caved in and admitted that he didn't want the item, but he paid me for it anyway.

    Quite entertaining I suppose.

i've got a woman now that's irritating me to no end

first of all she won my auction on the 26th of november

after 2 payment reminders she said she was having problems with making the payment via paypal. i've had problems with auctiva and paypal meshing via the checkout so i said fair enough, gave her instructions on how to pay manually via paypal and heard nothing

after another reminder she says she'll send me a bank draft??? so i wrote back stating that i will accept a postal order or a cheque

    nothing
then i write again and get a response a few days ago saying her mother died suddenly and she'd get it to me after they'd dealt with the funeral

now, i'm pretty understanding but i think she's lying because she took so damn long BEFORE her mother supposedly suddenly and unexpectedly died (her words)

i'd rather just relist the damn thing but if i put in a npb right now she'll say i'm being course and leave really appalling feedback so she's got me over a barrel

it's nto a lot of money but i'm trying to keep my books straight and i keep having to follow up and it's a pain!

how long do you think i should wait before contacting her again?

if she has paid within the 45 day period i'm definately filing a npb claim

I've just managed to make contact with the buyer.
He said that it was his nephew using his account. He was quite apologetic.
I explained that I needed the part shifted, that I needed a plan within the next few days, or otherwise I'd have to carry out a NPB dispute and leave negative feedback.
    See what happens then.
I'm always prepared to negotiate a mutually acceptable solution etc, but it's my time,my effort etc and I it's the principle of it. Don't bid unless intending to pay.

I send a reminder after 3 days, another 2 reminders giving a deadline, and if I've heard nothing or have been messed around by 9 days after the end of the auction, I leave neg and go to Second Chance Offer.

I had one girl not pay me for 16 days, I offered her another week, and she left me neg, so sometimes you just can't win.

Well, I've phoned the chap up again and he's promised to phone his nephew up and get him to call me back.
I'll see how it goes, but I'm starting to suspect he's talking rubbish.
I'll phone up and ask for a direct phone number soon.

    Re: OP

It depends on their feedback, I've had someone promise to pay twice but "not get round to it" but I'm patient after a month because he has about 100 positives. For people with less than 10 or a couple of negs already, I'll just put in a non-paying bidder alert to ebay as soon as possible.

I really like this new feedback change. Now it means I can give then negatives, and not get negged myself!

Although make sure you follow this:

The new policy only applies to unpaid item claims filed on or after Monday, December 5th (except for those that were filed on or after December 5th and were closed before the change was fully implemented on December 8th). Eligibility is based on the Unpaid Item filing date, not when the feedback was left.
They do like to make it difficult, don't they?

The new rules only come into effect if the buyer does not particiapte in the NPB process, so a buyer can still work the system by responding to the dispute saying they are too ill to pay, or whatever and that might be enough to get their feedback to stand.
