DVD Recorder £67.99 at Amazon

Amazon have an Inventive DRW2033 Multi-region DVD Recorder Silver for £67.99.

Insert From Martin

Here's a link to the DVD Recorder on Amazon*

More about the spec:

Compatible with DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-Audio, SVCD, VCD, DVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and CD
MPEG-2 digital real-time encoding and decoding technology supports diverse picture quality recording modes
Intelligent preset timer recording supports recording in different modes
Multiple inputs from TV tuner, AV and S-video supports recording from CATV, disc player or video camera
Automatic TV channel scanning; simultaneous playback and record feature
PAL/NTSC recording system and output selection

By the way it's worth remembering any system that says its multi-region, means it has the ability to be multi-region, virtually all of them require you to enter a code into the remote control to change the region. This DVD recorder is multi-region capable.

For those who don't know what regions are. Each area of the world e.g Europe, americas etc. has a different regional code, its so Hollywood can lock down distribution of DVDs. Most players are single region, meaning only uk disks can be played, yet multi-region players mean you can order cheaper disks from overseas sometimes and they'll work.

PS (from martin)

If you've not yet got a copy you can always grab the Money Diet from Amazon at £3.99, meaning there'll be know delivery charge because in total you're spending over £15!)

    Cheers. Good spot!

Don't forget to use the free super saver too... IME at this time of year, you're looking at under a week (usually a couple of days)

Can't find any useful information, however.

Is it + or -? or both?
    Progressive Scan?
    Outputs? 2 scarts?
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Yes there isn't enough info about the tech specs and I couldn't find anything about the recorder when I googled it.

I like to wait for customer reviews of products on Amazon's site.

Talking about LiteOn, I saw a new recorder model in an American magazine for $99 US and it even plays DivX. Have a look at it here:

In the photo it even looks like if Apple designed it! Hope they release it in UK.

They have another new model as well but I can't see much different in the specs compared to the one above:

    Oh oh...

"not Multi-Region as the title suggests but R2 only ... uses DVD+ media [only]"

Amazon and the manufacturer seem to differ on the specification on this recorder. Check it out before buying.

Also there is only one review of the product on Amazon and this is from someone who is very unhappy with the recorder and is in the process of returning it to Amazon.

It may be cheap but doesn't seem to be good value.

    Regards,
    Art.
  • Will something like this allow me to make a copy of a DVD - better still, just a part of a long DVD that has two minutes of my daughter at school singing a song? Or do I need software?

Liteon are making all of their new DVD players DivX compatible.

I'm not sure if anyone else knows about this, but the best place I've found for DVD media is https://www.bigpockets.co.uk. I regularly buy DVD+Rs from there for about 15p each, sometimes as low as 10p each, not including shipping. A great site for anyone that uses a lot of recordable DVDs and CDs, plus they are selling other items on there as well.

Yes, you can play the original DVD on your DVD player and record it on the recorder (I have done this myself)*. Probably the best way to do that though, is to use a pc with a DVD writer. You could record your daughter singing the song, but on most DVD recorders, that would be a separate title, and you wouldn't be able to include it amongst other video. The best option might be to use something like Pinnacle.

    * You can't (and shouldn't) record protected material!!!
