I've just got a letter off barclaycard, saying the following:
Dear Miss X,
As a valued barclaycard customer you have been selected to claim a £80 petrol reward. PLus, here's the best news of all: the petrol reward is yours just for trying all the money saving benefits of the LeisureTime Discounts progamme.
It then goes on to explain the LeisureTime Discounts programme, which saves you moey at restaurants, on entertainment and attractions.
These are just the beginning of the LeisureTime Discounts you can get for 30 days, absolutely FREE.
And by accepting this special offer, you get four £20 Petrol Cash Back vouchers to save on your petrol or diesel purchases! Plus, you can get guarenteed discounts on dining, entertainment, and more.
As soon as you sign and return the enclosed reply form, LeisureTime will send your membership pack out to you beginning your 30 day free trial. Unless you notify LeisureTime not to continue during your trial period, your membership will be automatically continued at the £6.99 monthly fee, (inc vat) billed to your barclaycard, without your having to do anything further for as long as you wish to remain a member....You may cancel at any time by calling our 0800 number....
* Your LeisureTime ,e,bership pack will include 4 £20 vouchers. You can redeem one of the four vouchers in each quarter of the year by sending them to LeisureTime with a receipt for petrol purchased in the UK. PLease allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of your cashback reward. Only one £80 petrol reward can be claimed per person. You must be 18 years of age.
Anyone know what all this is about? Can you get the free membership, the vouchers, and then cancel without having to pay? Or do you have to be a member to claim back the money, so it's no good if you cancel your membership?

I received something very similar from Hitachi Capital (I bought a pricey watch from a jeweller at 0% and Hitachi financed it).
There are a number of hoops to jump through:
1. You can only redeem one voucher at a time by sending it in the post with a petrol receipt for the specified period - if there are four vouchers, you will get 4 three month petrol redemption periods over a year.
2. The receipt must relate to the period on the voucher.
All in all, if you can be bothered to send through the vouchers each time, it's a good deal.0 -
I would guess that the small print would say that you need to be a member to claim the cashback. Therefore, your £80 of petrol would actually cost you 11 x £6.99 = £76.89!0

Yeah that's what I was wondering may happen0 -
Just reading the small print near the signature it says:
By signing below, I will be entitled to try leisuretime for 30 days absolutely free. I accept that following the 30 day trial period which begins once I receive my membership pack, my membership will be automatically continued at the £6.99 monthly fee (which includes VAT), billed to my barclaycard, without me having to do anything further for so long as I wish to remain a member. If I decide leisuretime is not for me, I'll cancel my membership at any time during the 30 day free trial by callin 0800...... and owe nothing. The petrol reward is mine to keep, free.
Though I'm still wondering how you can claim it if you're not a member... hmmm.0 -
You have hit the nail on the head, you don't have to be a member to claim the reward according to the terms and conditions.
However, the health warning is that the company will have far less incentive to pay out the reward if you are not a member so you may find it's like getting blood out of a stone. I couldn't be bothered claiming mine when I signed up in the end because my vouchers were for only £5 not £20. Same in all other ways though.
Ultimately though, you have very little to lose provided you cancel in time.0 -
Hey,
I got this too!
I was thinking of signing up and using one of the £20 vouchers during my 30 days free membership. If you have to be a member to claim the cashback, then I won't be able to claim the remaining 3 x £20 vouchers, but I'll still have had the 1st one.0 -

I was thinking this, till I got to the bit where it says that it takes 4-6 weeks to process the cashback, so you may have to sign up for another month if that's the case.0 -
Got mine and assume that I can use all the vouchers even if I cancel, however it look slike you get loads of other benefits to like cheep deals at restraunts and discounts on days out etc so if you remain a member for a full year the petrol vouchers cover the cost os in effect you get the leisure discounts for free.
Going to fill it in and see what I get!0 -
yeah i got this too. thinking about filling it in and seeing what happens. can't lose anything...it's even freepost to send it back.0
