I was stopped in the street today by a weatherseal girl who told me about a prize draw to win free glazing or a cash equivalent.I agreed to a visit from a salesman and he came out tonight.
He asked us some questions about the house and the area and entered us for the free promotion. They take before and after shots,we put a weatherseal board outside for 2 months and the photos appear in Which magazine around Jan/Feb.Aparantly they put 12 customers forward from each area and only one win their order free.He said we were selected and had won our order free,so I added on a door too, free also.
Does anyone know if this is legit. My hubby is worried that we are going to get the work done then end up with a massive bill and that we are not actually getting the windows atc for free at all,he is worried its a con.
Anyone heard of this promo and know anyone who actually got free stuff? It just seems too good to be true.£7,560 worth of home improvements for free.

not heard of it before, but sorry it does sound a bit too good to be true.
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
That does sound too good to be true. Amazing how 12 people are selected but you won tonight when the salesperson visited!
What have you got in writing from the company? If it was me, I wouldn't let them do any work until I had something saying what I'd won, so there's no dispute about whether the door/ 2nd window/ etc was in the prize or not.
A quick google search shows the comp is listed on their website so the salesperson isn't just making it up. Maybe you could phone them to find out some more info?

DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THEM WITH A BARGEPOLE!0 -
Hubby is really worried and wants me to cancel the free windows etc.I really want to check whether it is free or not first.Something that is worrying me is the salesman removed the top 3 copies of the order/sales agreement before passing hubby just the bottom 2 copies to look over and sign.He could fill in the finance agreement on the other copies after he left and we could end up with a big bill. Are they that sneaky???What do you think."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0

I'd say, Yes - they can be that sneaky, especially if they are working on commission.
I'd be really careful if I were you - I got caught out like that with a gym membership, where the girl signing me up changed something on my copy, but not on the original. Took me ages to sort it out...
It all seems a bit quick - you got stopped in the street today, he came round tonight and told you that you were a lucky winner.
Get on to them first thing and check it out.
Not sure whether you have a cooling-off period when you've invited them into your home. I think it's different if they cold-call - you get some time (10 days?) to think about it and can cancel without penalty I think
Maybe we're all too cynical - hopefully it's real, that would be greatBest win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100 -
It does sound too good to be true, if you have won it why have they left a sales and finance form for you to sign??
My other way of thinking is to them its not £7560 worth of work... Windows are not as expensive as you may think if you are in the trade and even cheaper if they manufacture their own so maybe its worth it to them to advertise... Do you live in a nice area or on a main road???
Even so I would be very wary of this and if they insist when you have spoke to them that it is free and you have indeed won it, perhaps get something in writing to say that its a prize and you are not obliged to pay anything.0 -
I really hope for your sake I am wrong, but
I think there's a damned good chance that he has signed you up on a credit agreement. I would chase this very quickly ~ some salesmen can be very devious.
I agree with the posters who say the price is excessive. Have a ring round some of the smaller adds in Yellow Pages in your area - small companies usually charge a lot less. Tell them how many windows and doors you have and get a rough quote. We have just had double glazing put in 2 new starter home, and it has cost us half of what you have been quoted.0 -
I would have a read of the paperwork again, and see what you think of it.
There will be contact information on the forms, and if you have a query on it contact someone at the branch / store.
if you have been mis-sold this, contact trading standards about it.
i would like to think that new windows and doors would cost in the region of about £2500 fully fitted..
If you want a rough guide, use this website to work out your package as a rough estimate..

We signed a purchase contract in the end only after he told us we had won our entire order free under the Featurehome promotion. This is not the prize competition thats on the website at the moment but the recurring featurehome promo.
Sales person tried to talk us into finance but we went with the cash option.Hubby only saw the bottom 2 coipies of the contract and crossed out the empty boxes for cash terms and finance writing not applicable through them.Still worried that the top 3 copies might be filled in differently by the sales man.If the salesman does that he would also have to forge a seperate finance agreement too, so I am almost certain this win is genuine. We did quiz him quite a bit while he was here checking that we would not have to pay anything more and he confimed verbally that the windows would only cost us the survey and admin fee of £70 and no further money would have to be paid at all ever.We need to get that in writing.
I also asked him if he still gets his commission with us not paying anything for the order and he said he is salaried not commission based anyway.
If we were paying for this we would not use this company because it was really expensive,at least double what I would expect to pay,but its free so we signed the order.
I will phone them too and as a few of you have suggested will ask for something in writing before I let any work start.
We have never won anything before so we are naturally dubious but I do hope its all legitimate."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
I found a site with people complaining they had to go to court to get their free stuff or cashback.Getting more worried.
http://www.clik2complaints.co.uk/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=600&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=10&PHPSESSID=97645f40671943370001acd95e4b2385
Also just noticed that although the salesman said we would not have to pay out another penny he has written £7560 cashback on the order which implies fairly clearly that we will have to pay the £7560 first them get it refunded at a later date.He said we would get the £7560 cheque from their sponsors in this promotion GE capital and use that money to pay for the windows.
Confused now."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
I may be a bit naive here but surley if you have the bottom 2 copies they can't change the top 3 copies because the changes wouldn't show on the 2 copies that you have, although it does seem strange that he tore the top 3 of first normally they don't do that until everything has been filled in. Also, wouldn't it be illegal to say you had won something then not give you the prize
Personally I would go for the cash alternative then get the work done elsewhere cheaper. Let us know what happens I'm really interested now.
