I did just this... a few weeks ago. Not really expecting much more than a few quid.
I was overjoyed when the cheque landed on my doormat, for nearly £500!!

I have been overpaying my tax for three years!! & was due some tax relief on my pension contributions. I got a cheque for over £1000 + an extra £300 (estimate) in this months pay + my tax code has gone up.
I love the tax man this month.0 -
can anyone who is working through an employer check if they are owed any tax back or is it just usually self employed people?0

marie - everyone has the right to claim, or attempt to claim back tax. It doesn't matter whether you're employed, seld-employed, unemployed or a child.0

As isasmurf said anyone can contact their tax office and ask for their tax affairs to be reviewed re a possible refund. Some of these firms can charge as much as 40% of whatever refund is due to you no matter how big or small. Just got my final payslip of the year today, and i've overpaid about £2 , which i can live with
, but i think i overpaid by quite a bit the previous tax year, due to job changes etc. 0
