• Can I say Silvercharming that I love your signature. Maybe some of the DFW regulars could adopt something similar as well. It would help with publisising the correct site.

Like the idea of clicking on them to cost them money, but would it actually work like that?

Well, I use google adwords and you set a limit each day/week/month on how much money you are willing to spend on 'clicks'. You pay for each 'click' on the ad then once the money is exhausted the ad no longer appears until the next day/week/month.

Firstly, once this company's ceiling has been reached the 'ad' will no longer appear for the day/week/month

Secondly, lord knows, adwords aren't cheap per click, so if you aren't generating profit off those clicks you soon change your strategy.

Thirdly, I know google do nothing, that's why I'm suggesting a more, ahem, 'guerilla' approach.

There, and I wan't going to spell it out either!
(cool, does this mean I'm a consumer terrorist now? I always thought it was cool when people called Martin that. I seem to have gone all 'power to the people' tonight)
• I wonder if "MSE Towers" would be interested in this one?

I've just emailed the big man. I'm making this public to put more pressure on him. :D

I think it would work Tiger. I've used adwords myself and it's how my competitors did me in.

Thanks on the sig. I wanted to use links but we're not allowed. Fermi's is great and the links work. How did you manage that, Fermi?

Well I've PM'ed Martin.

Ultimately there is nothing to stop us from doing this but it would hold much more substance if it was an MSE approved crusade and I wouldn't want to get the site a bad reputation or anything.

But I'm liking the idea! ;)

The link has been corrected in my post as well.
A spokeswoman for the charity said it was upset that vulnerable people could be misled when trying to find them on the internet. It is compiling a dossier of complaints, which it is sending to the Office of Fair Trading.
The OFT said it was aware of traders using names similar to other organisations and the potential for confusion: "In our consideration of a trader's fitness to hold a consumer credit licence we investigate all complaints and where we have the necessary evidence we do take appropriate action."
I'm sure CCCS has taken extensive legal advice over how to address this. I still think the best approach is to back up CCCS and the other debt charities by making complaints that they can include in the info they submit to the OFT. Or by complaining to the OFT directly.

But it is amazing what a site like this can do if someone like Martin and us get their teeth into the issue. :D

EDIT: I'll be interested to hear Martin's view SS.

• Anyone got any idea how to complain to google? I looked at their 'contact us' sheet and was totally lost!

Google Adword complaint form, I hope?!

I do agree with SS and fermi. Probably it's not one to do without backing, which is why I was a bit reluctant to spell it out in the first place.

Could we all make seperate complaints to OFT?

And Fermi, how DID you get the link into your sig. I've been jealous of it for ages and mine was inspired by it, even if it's a pale comparison.

Before you even try you MUST get permission from the forum/site admins.

Links in signatures are against the rules unless you get permission first.

• I just googled cccs, and at the top of the list (sponsored Link) was a website for www.c-c-c-s.com where the cccs stands for Credit Card Consolidation Services. How devious of them.

Make sure you refer to the correct www.cccs.co.uk

Re: your sig, there's a good website I found on DiggIt - www.youre.co.uk :)
