which bank offers best online banking facilities? (Merged)

Options
i currently use barclays as my 'main' current account, the online banking is fantastic! so easy to set up s/o's and adjust them, make one off payments etc.

however, they also charge me £3.20 per month for something or other...

i have an a+l current account and online saver as well, the online banking seems a bit naff to me, but i basically xfer a few hundred from barclays into A+L current a/c and use it as a 'spending' account.

recently opened first direct current account to take advantage of £25 offer, which they paid :) unfortunately, somehow, i managed to go over my barclays o/d limit for a day, which cost me £25... !!!!!!!

ideally, i want to get rid of the barclays account... been paying them £3.20 per month for gawd knows how long now and im fed up of it, but i also want online banking that can match theirs.

who would you recommend, and why?? also add other reasons besides the online banking.

thanks :)

    Silly question number 49...

Why don't you ASK Barclays what they are charging you for and then change the whateveritis?

I like Barclays too. I do not pay them anything though.
My other main account is with Nationwide. I can compare their online banking with Barclays' and find it quite good.
Sometimes I use A&L and Lloyds TSB accounts. I do not like their online banking.

Good grief I've asked thousands of stupid questions in my time. What on Earth made you think I stopped at fortynine? ;)

I have or have used LLoydsTSB, First Direct and Nationwide.

Prefer Nationwide and great thing is Microsoft Money can link straight to it!

Nationwide are also good at responding to questions made online.

I'd have to agree that the Nationwide internet banking is excellent.

Lloyds isn't that bad... a bit basic though.

    Halifax is quite good too.

Do you have an overdraft? It could be the protection fee for it?

I use Barclays online banking. It's great! My only gripe is you can't transfer money from a Barclays account to your Barclays ISA account using it.
  • I personally like Nationwide as their statements can be automatically downloaded into MS Money whereas LLoyds Tsb which i've just left and also Natwest cant they have to be manually downloaded :o

Have you tried First Direct's online banking? I use it and like it, more than Abbeys that isn't quite so flexible for things like making one off payments. Both download to Microsoft Money. If you use First Direct Internet Banking Plus, you can just log in once to access all of your online accounts. Having said that, I think some people feel this is risky practice.

I like Halifax - they have a username and password, both chosen by user.

Don't like A&L - have to use supplied customer number (hard to remember) and supplied PIN number. You change PIN number but it's only five digits!
