    I would really recommend First Direct - their online banking is easy to use, easy to view everything, you can set up standing orders etc instantly etc etc.

    you can also use telephone banking any time you want on the same accounts and get to speak to a human in Manchester or Scotland 24/7 with no irritating menus when you call.

    Their savings accounts/mortgages do not have very brilliant rates though but I would always keep my current account with them as the service is excellent on that.

    Smile, without a doubt. It's a Which? Best Buy and has their highest customer satisfaction rating. I've been with them for 5 years and have found them excellent for staff, website and interest rates. And I have online current accounts with A&L, Cahoot, Citibank, Barclays, First Direct, Lloyds TSB, Nationwide, NatWest and RBS to compare with.

    I must admit I was interested to learn that you don't rate Natwest on line banking is.

    I've had experience of Lloyds online banking and out of the 2, I prefer Natwest.

    With natwest you can set up a payment on line ...with lloyds you have to wait 2 days before you can use that particular payment

    With natwest you can see what payments have been made immediately...can't do that with natwest

    AND their call centres are in the UK!
    2014 Target;
    To overpay CC by £1,000.
    Overpayment to date : £310

    2nd Purse Challenge:
    £15.88 saved to date

    Visa Debit is pretty much the same as switch, used to be called visa delta and I found it used to be more accepted than switch cards (in the olden days)

    Now Switch=Maestro. Maestro is a debit card under Mastercard.
    I am not 100% sure, but I think now difference in acceptance of Visa-Delta and Mastercard-Maestro debit card is very small.

    1. Sometimes it is money, sometimes it is some other introductory offer or both, for example free travel insurance from A&L. I opened Smile account in the past with £1 just to have higher interest on cash ISA with them.
    2. It is good for your credit history to have at least one current account for a long time. If you switch account you lose this.
