Sorry this isnt a freebie for everone but I could do with some advice and I'm quite new here so wasn't sure where to post. Feel free to delete!!
I signed for a package today (thought it was my catalogue shoes) opened it to find marian keyes' book 'is anyone out there?' and a leter saying thanks for joining Mango book club.
I've never even heard of them so i called and told them the deal. The woman who answered didn't speak very good english but I worked out that she was saying if i didnt want to be a member she would cancel my membership, not contact me again and I could keep the book as a 'token gift'
This seems random to me, why would they do that?
Im worried that il be charged anyway and end up with loads of hasstle.
just wondering if anyone else had came across anything similar before or knows the rules with sending stuff to people?
Thanks for any help!!

I had a book from these before that I hadn't ordered. I did the same, contacted them and I have never heard from them again.
My advice would be not to worry:)0 -
Me too - had the same experience. Received a book from them, rang them up told them I didn't want it. They said they would cancel my account and I could keep the book! Not heard a peep since and it was about 5 months ago. So enjoy - it's a freebie!!!!

There seems to be a lot of this about, there is already a thread on either the warnings board or the vent board about Mango.
I wonder if Mango are either having major problems data wise, or just being underhand in their marketing tactics and assuming that some people will just pay up and not complain?

Mango are often on cash back site competition entires, or sign ups.. for rpoints or ipoints etc.. you have to trawl thru a load of options to accept or decline certain offers and sometimes if overlooked you can end up subscribing to something you didn't want or ask for..
I was in the same situation regarding Mango.. I refused to return the book at my own expense, so they sent me a prepaid envelope (didnt get the offer to keep it) Make sure you request they remove all your details from their database and ask for confirmation of this :-)0 -
Get rid of it, you will be tortured by them if you don't. Then download the Woollies voucher for the Martina Cole book - a real freebie and a good read.0

I got a similar package today, glad I am not the only one.
Whilst its extremely annoying I am actually quite chuffed as Marian Keyes is my favourite book and I haven't read ths one yet
I called them (well it was only 40p or so) and they said they would cancel the account and I could keep the book (I was all geared up for an argument too). I asked them to send me an invoice showing zero balance and closure of the account.
All round a bargain for me but I hope noone accidentally gets suckered into the 5 books thing.Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)
