Hi Danni,
Martin's article What's hot and what's not at Aldi/Lidl/Netto, is a good place to see what the popular products are from those stores.
You can also join the original discussion thread which is still current on the Shop but Don't Drop board:
Great What/What Not to Buy at Lidl, Aldi and Netto Hunt
As this is more of a shopping thread, I'll move it over to the Shop but Don't Drop board, where you should get more replies.

Aldi and Lidl are great. They differ slightly in that Aldi tend to sell products that are produced specifically for them whilst Lidl tend to sell brands that are common in a foreign country, for example a German brand of orange juice. I find Lidl to represent slightly better value than Aldi, but have spoken to others who find the opposite.
Fruit & Veg is very high quality at both retailers. It's also very good value, especially at the frequent half price sales that Aldi exhibits.
Meat is generally good quality, but is frozen in most cases. Suits me, but a butcher? I wouldn't know. Buy some and ask him!

Well, they sell coffee, some of it is better than nescafe - try and see...
You're always going to get better (raw) meat at a butchers, can't remember the last time I bought supermarket stuff. Lidl and Aldi "deli" type cooked meats are pretty good though.0 -
Ive always thought that the fruit juices at lidl were just as good as everwhere else and cheaper. If i can be bothered i get my juices from there and save a little.Offical MSE Fantasy League Member:beer:0

Aldi and Lidl are tramp stores like netto and that. No kid at school is gonna say- oh I got my packed lunch from aldi- he'd be bullied into oblivion
I feel so sorry for kids, they are all being sucked in to the " name game ".
Aldi and Lidl sell good quality food at very competetive prices, what is wrong with that?
So which are the cool supermarkets that these kids can get acceptable ( to their school mates ) packed lunches from?
Surely if a parent packs their lunch, nobody will even know where stuff comes from anyway..0 -
Lidl and Aldi are good value for most things - and they have a range of interesting 'things' in apart from food items. I buy all my juice there and find the cheeses and yohurts are great too. I agree that the fruit and veg is fine.
We know what happens to people who stay in the middle of the road. They get run over.

Personally my view re Lidl is slightly different. Excellent value, their own lable stuff, biscuits, frozen pizzas & deserts, bread, tea bags, cereals (their top end Muesli is one of the best I have had) are hard to beat. The 'specials' are excellent value and often all too inviting. I have been known to go out for milk and buy, for example a DVD recorder, printer or video sender! So discipline is paramount!
I am not impressed with their meat,at all. As to fruit and veg in in my experience the quality is variable, sometimes good and others cr*p. Plus they sell a lot of pre packaged fruit and veg that does not have a best before date - which is against the law I beleive.
But all round, if you are selective, Lidl does represent good value. Just be careful what you buy.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
