I thought that as far as hydrogenated fats are concerned, the Germans are ahead of us in not permitting it in their foodstuffs - I think their chocolate is probably healthier than ours. However, much as I like Lidl, I was put off when a customer loudly reported the presence of cockroaches in our store (Brighton) - YEUCHHH!!
  • I love Lidl, I find that going to Tesco's for example I spend much more because of too much choice and because they've got clothes and stuff as well. I always end up picking up stuff that I don't necessarily need.
I find some of their meat not great, but love the things like stuffed vine leaves and big jars of olives. Also their bread mix for bread makers is brilliant and of course the mulled wine in winter and the chocolate.

We're moving in a couple of weeks to a non lidl town and I'm not looking forward to it my nearest supermarket is going to be Tesco so I'm going to have to go shopping with steely determination not to over spend.

Dark chocolate is very healthy for you, it has stuff in it which helps protect your heart. Lidl sell some very good dark chocolate bars at cheap prices compared to other brands.

Have got a few bits from lidls, i prefer some of there exotic foods from different countries. But most of the stuff i just don't like the look of, for me i think morrisons is better value for money , more brand names and always full of bargains

What people like in these stores seems to vary person to person. All i can says is if new to them try one of an item as a tester, do not be put off by the fact its not a brand name you know. When we see something new there we will try it. Some things we think are poor, but its cut our weekly Tesco shop down to shopping every so often at tesco for a top up but mostly at Lidl (aldi a mile further up the road than lidl so usually use lidl).

And the non food specials.....well i am typing on a PC bought at Aldi. Sign up at their websites for e-mails of their offers.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

  • I do my shopping wherever the best bargains are. That includes:

    Waitrose/local shops & markets/Tescos/M&S/Morrisons/CoOp/Iceland/ASDA/Lidl & Aldi.

My main issue with both Aldi & Lidl is that I absolutely abhor my purchases being slung at me with great speed onto a tiny landing platform when they go through the checkout. I have been to several Aldi/Lidl stores and they all seem to be the same. I like saving money and I do go back, but I hate the way I am "processed" at high speed with little chance to pack properly ... and no, I don't want to transfer everything I have bought from the tills to the packing areas. I'm a quick and courteous packer, but too slow for Aldi/Lidl checkouts. If Aldi/Lidl changed this policy they would definitely see me more often.

  • I looooove Lidl. They sell all mad food :D and I love picking up stuff I'd never see usually. I love their Christmas range too.... yummy German gingerbread and spiced biscuits...

I think the fruit and veg are very cheap and don't go off as quickly as Tesco stuff (shop both so have made the comparison many times.)

Oh and the cats will only eat from Lidl, turn their noses up at Whiskas etc.... makes me wonder what's in the respective foods!
  • having managed a lidl store i can honestly say i would never shop there. maybe the odd ok thing but not worth the drive for us and when you have worked there i guess you get to see and hear things that make you think arghh i would neverreccomend anyone to work there either but that is just me everyone is different if you like it great moneysaving shop.
