What's it about?
A hotel in Hoxton, London is offering rooms for £1 a night for bookings between 1 July to 30 September. The price even includes breakfast! There are 500 rooms at the special rate, and you can book them online from 9am Thursday 28 June 2007. It is very likely these will all be gone by 5.30pm at the latest so ensure you get the timing right.
At that price surely the rooms can't be that good?
See for yourself. Check out the hotel's photo gallery.
Why the hurry if they're not available yet?
The hotel have run this £1 offer three times before and the rooms went like proverbial hotcakes. This time 500 rooms will be offered at £1 so if you are looking to stay in London between July and September, then get online at 9am sharp.
What if I can't get a £1 room?
Once the £1 rooms are sold out for a particular night the next cheapest is £29, still not a particularly bad price for a room in London.
P.S. This discussion was originally started by the poster immediately below. This entry has been inserted so I can put an official, fully researched MoneySavingExpert.com explanation at the top. Thank you to louised for spotting the offer.

We are going on Tuesday and I was just looking at the facilities available and found this !!!
The £1 room offer is coming back!
This guide should help you take advantage of our offer
On the 28th June at 9am our summer sale will start. We will be releasing 1000 bedrooms, 500 at £1 and 500 at £29, available between the 1st July - 30th September.
During our last sale, we sold over 1300 rooms (slight software error), we had over 100,000 people trying to book the rooms and all 1300 sold out within 19 minutes! Because of this amount of traffic you may not get a room for either a £1 or £29, we are sorry, and we will have other rooms on sale starting from £59. We also try to make the sale as fair as possible and only allow one £1 room per person; if we find anyone misbehaving they will loose all their bookings.
This time our software has been improved (thank you Tech support) but unfortunately, due to the way our software works, the room is not yours until you receive a confirmation number. If you find an available room, you must complete a series of 5 steps before you can have the room. During the time it takes you to complete each step there could be another 100,000 people trying to book the same room, so you have to be quick. To help make the process easier and to try and reduce confusion we have provided this "How to book" guide, highlighting step-by-step what you have to do to try and get a room. We suggest that you print this page (sorry trees) and have it with you for the sale. The quicker you are the luckier you will be. Good luck!

Yep chances are slim the amount of sites and people who have seen this who'll be wanting a room in london for £1. I think the idea of this deal is to get you interested in booking a room, then finding you can't get a £1 or £29 room but you can get one that costs a bit more. I.e. Bait and Switch

Re the chances of getting one- last time the system was swamped in the first twenty minutes and lots of people were on here cursing about how it was a big con etc etc. However, after 20 minutes when it came back I booked one for me and one for my husband very easily. So although every time they do it more people try, it is still possible if you are prepared. Somewhere on an old thread there is a link to a simpler way of booking that saved all the fancy graphics and that was so muche easier. Anyone got it and willing to share??:o0 -

No , you can only book 1 night and you probably will not get the night you want. Try travelodge or holiday inn websites for cheaper places to stay the night(rooms sleep 2 adults and 2 kids).0 -

Was thinking of trying to get a room for mum and dad, (I'm a bit skint and it is his birthday 3rd sept) but note it says 1 night per person for £1.00. Would booking one room for mum, and the following night a room for dad be ok. Realise demand will be high, but just trying to get prepared. Thanks in advance.0
