What's the deal?
Dollond & Aitchison is offering a free eye test (these are free in Scotland anyway), usually priced at £27.50, at any of its 380 branches until 11 Sept. It's available to all who haven't had a test at D&A within the past two years.
How to get it
To claim the free test, visit D&A's website, fill in the short form and a voucher will be emailed to you. You'll need to print this out.
Then give Dollond & Aitchison a call on 0800 052 8000 to arrange an examination before 11 September. It's worth mentioning you have this voucher when booking the appointment, plus remember you MUST take it with you.
You don't have to buy glasses from D&A
D&A's offering this freebie as it hopes you'll buy specs or lenses from it if you need them, but this isn't a prerequisite. Before parting with your cash, read both my Glasses Buying and Contact Lens cost cutting articles to help slash the amount you pay.

REMEMBER!!!
If you work with VDU (computer screens) for 4 or more hours per day then your employer has to pay for your eye test! Speak to your HR dept about how your employer deals with this as you may be able to just submit expenses from your usual optician, other larger employers may have a preferred optician or voucher scheme.
SO that's free all the time, no strings attached!0 -

Are you sure? Is ther anywhere I can get written proof of this? I'm a designer, and work 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week for the last 11 years in front of large monitor and I have never been told I can get my eye-tests paid for!0 -

This is a test by an optometrist or doctor. There is also an entitlement to further tests at regular intervals; the optometrist doing the first test can recommend when the next should be. Employers only have to pay for spectacles if special ones (for example, prescribed for the distance at which the screen is viewed) are needed and normal ones cannot be used.

Download of the voucher (which is sent as an email) was a doddle but the local D&A store was mildly suprised I'd got it so easily when I phone to book the appointment! - perhaps there's been problems elsewhere?0
