Beautiful gift rose_sparky, your sister will be thrilled!
I've just ordered some red/pink bath pearls from bubblelush - 20p each and £1.75 p&p which I didn't think was too bad. Also ordered some plastic cherries from China via ebay (£2.52 inc. p&p for 10). Off to Asda next week for flannels so I can get cupcake making!!! If I make anything ok will post pics.
Does anyone know a good place for glass jars that I could put bath salts in? Thought a pretty jar of bath salts with a little scoop and a flannel cupcake would make a nice gift? If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
I would imagine Ikea for the jars or keep a look out at car boots and charity shops.
Or how about some pretty cut glass drinking glasses or fruit dishes, you can usually pick these up for pence if they are odd ones, with pretty fabric covers (edges cut with pinking shears) and put put clingfilm underneath the fabric to protect the salts.0 -

Thanks rose_sparky, didn't think of Ikea! If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
I've got a single wine glass (free gift with something we ordered) and managed to pick up some gold bath crystals and a gold scrunchie from the charity shop. If I put the crystals into the glass (champagne look I'm hoping?) how do I keep the crystals from spilling everywhere ? I can only think of putting the scrunchie on the top............would that have the right effect do you think ?Mary

How about cutting a piece of thickish clear plastic, the sort manufacturers use for packaging (try the salad containers at the salad bars). Cut a larger circle then snip the edges to fit tightly in the glass. Then place the scrunchie on the top. I don't know if it would work but worth a try?
Either way, there's some clever people on here who can probably come up with more ideas.0 -
I did wonder about that but the top of the glass is narrower that the middle and I'm not sure the plastic wouldn't split. Not sure I've got any plastic ????
Oh eck.....................???

Just stumbled across this thread and absolutely loving the creative ideas.
I went into my local Poundstretchers today and notice they had 6 flannels for a £1 (mix of 2 colours). The only combination I can recall is brown and cream.
I'm hoping to attempt a baby bouquet within the next week. I got most things except baby clothes.0 -
been thinking about this giant cup cake tin
that sells for a whopping £27.99 + P&P
and thought how could you do this
without shelling out all that cash.
In time the price of this will drop
considerably as it becomes more popular
So in the mean time I have thought of
an alternative. Why not use a terracotta
ceramic plant pot for the bottom half,
the kind you find in garden centres B&Q etc
line it with grease proof paper, they bake
bread in them so why not cakes ? Leave
it to go cold once baked and then remove
grease proof paper and slice accross the top
of the cake to get a flat surface and the right
height.A typical 6,7 or 8 inch diameter plant
pot will give you the right effect depending
on how large you want it.Cost for a pot
under a £1
Now the top half get a pudding basin, the
old fashioned type that you do steamed
puddings in you need the diameter to
be the same as the base or if you
prefer a different match for
example a 8 inch diameter pudding
bowl to a 7 inch plant pot if you
want it to have more of an over hang.
Make sure this is well greased before adding
the cake mix.Again slice accross this time on
what will be the bottom half of the cake.
Then get some jam and spread it
accross the top of the base and then add
the top,you then have the beginnings of a giant
cupcake that only needs icing and decorating.
Piped icing will create a pointy peak on the top.
So thats a ceramic plant pot for less than a £1
plus a pudding basin £1.99 in Morrisons
and some grease proof paper.A lot cheaper
than the cake tin.:j:j:j0 -

what about the flat clear acrylic sheets that you use for overhead projectors? you can usually buy single sheets from stationers and you could try using paper or thin card first to get the right size circles and once you've found that, you can use the paper/card as a template.
Because it's fairly rigid, it should keep the pearls in place, it's fairly flexible so you should be able to bend it to get it into the glass & and being see-through, it won't show.0 -
I'll give it a go. ThanksMary
