Ooh, thank you! I'm off to our local discount shopping village on Saturday and I've got a 10% off card for Julian Graves, so I may just get the Easiyo flask. But could I ask you a few questions about it? Do you still have to heat the milk, or can you just use it at room temperature? I've read these threads SO many times, but I'm still not sure. And how long do you leave it in the Easiyo flask? The flask method seems to be around 5-7 hours - is it the same for the Easiyo method? I'm so excited about making my own yoghurt, I even dreamt about it last night! (yep, I know how sad that is... :rotfl: )0

Certainly
No, you don't heat the milk. You pour the milk into the container and put the container into the Easiyo 'flask'. You fill the 'flask' with kettle boiled water.
For a mild yogurt - 6 - 7hrs
For a tangy yogurt - 8-10 hrs or overnight.
Then you have to chill the yogurt in your fridge.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

How stupidly easy is that?! You've made up my mind - I'll get the Easiyo flask. Thanks for all your help, Q.0

I've got the Easiyo flask thing and I love it!!! I make yoghurt every week now and it's yum!! And so easy!!! I don't use the sachets!! Although I have a question - can I freeze it does anyone know?
So for example could I freeze a bit to use as a starter later and then just defrost and use when I need to???

Yes, you can freeze yogurt - you can make yogurt ice creams etc. - not sure about using it as a starter after defrosting though
Ok, just found this info from Stonyfield Yogurt WebsiteDoes freezing yogurt destroy or alter the effectiveness of the live cultures?
You can freeze a cup of yogurt. A cup of yogurt that has been frozen and thawed will have a different look and texture than fresh yogurt. The cultures become dormant when frozen, but once thawed either in the refrigerator or by your body heat when ingested; they will become live and active once again. There will be a few cultures that do die, but there are so many billions in our products, that it is truly insignificant.

Good morning ! I am new to this, but have been wondering about an Easiyo for ages. So yesterday I read through all the accumulated wisdom, and then went into the garage to hunt for the youhurt making kit I bought years ago on Saint Delia's advice. It was a wide mouthed flask, and a milk saver and a thermometer, and I remember being ultra clean and hygenic but being COMPLETELY unable to make anything that looked or tasted like yoghurt. My small girls got very excited each time, and very disappointed when we fed it to the cat as milk. But surprise, surprise it wasn't where I thought it was in the garage (why on earth had I been keeping it, I wonder) so today I have scuttled off and bought an Easiyo. I had been going to buy it from Lakeland, but last week I noticed a new Julian Graves shop locally, so I popped off there this morning (thank you all, too, for introducing me to it, all those nuts and seeds and things will be wonderful for my Food Doctor diet which is very 'seedy') and a Greek-style yoghurt is even now forming (hopefully) in my lovely new Easiyo. It was £2 cheaper at JG than Lakeland, plus no postage. The sachets do seem expensive, but I haven't costed it all out properly yet , AND can use the advice all you lovely people have been passing round to make future batches from milk etc. THANK YOU so much to everyone. !  :beer:0

morganlefay - :T :T That's GREAT!! I only used the satchet that came with the Easiyo when I bought it, never needed to buy any more.
If I do need to buy any 'starter' I buy a small tub of Yeovalley bio yogurt and use whitefivers 'recipe' in the EasiYo.
Hope you have lots of scrummy meals with it~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I may just have been lucky, but inspired by this thread, I tried my hand at yogurt earlier this week. Didn't have the Easiyo system, or a wide necked flask so just made it in two normal flasks with narrow necks. Left it for about 10 hours, then gave it a shake and poured the results into clean plastic freezer boxes and put lid on. Results were delicious, and had no problem at all about getting it out of the flasks or getting the flasks clean afterwards. Hope this helps some of the people asking whether they need to buy new flasks.0

I also bought the Easiyo packets from a shopping channel - the plain and greek varieties - but I didn't invest in the yoghurt making kit. What I do is take about a tablespoon of powder from the Easyyo sachets and add to warmed milk (I usually stock up on semi-skimmed or whole milk when it's reduced at my local supermarket - I sometimes freeze the semi, so I've always got loads!). I then transfer into a yoghurt maker (bought from a boot sale!) and leave it 6-8 hours.
This way my bought sachets last for ages but the yoghurt still contains the acidophilus etc and tastes great! If I ever see an Easiyo kit at a boot sale I may buy it, just to see if there is any noticeable difference!0 -
Dont want to prolong this thread too much but just have a question!! Bought an easiyo yesterday and its fab!!! Made some vanilla custard yogurt and eat it all straight away. Now I know I dont have to use the packet mixes but if I save a few tbs of the vanilla custard made up yogurt and make another batch with warmed milk will it come out as plain yogurt or will it still have the taste? probably no but thought I would ask!0
