  • Hmm, I always wondered what the custard yogurts would be like! Sounds good to me.

In reply to your question, I guess that there will be a slight residual flavour, but I doubt that you would notice it.

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,

Thought I'd have a go at making my own yoghurt yesterday

bought a cheap thermos flask from tesco (£2), a small tub of tescos cheapest bio yoghurt, a litre of UHT milk and some dried milk

I was in a bit of a hurry last night, mixed everything together then realised I had forgotten to heat the milk first... oops

I was about to chuck it all away, but i thought I would see the experiment through anyway and put the mixture in the microwave for 2 mins, then poured it all into the thermos and left it overnight.

Checked it when i got up this morning and to my amazement it had turned to lovely, thick yoghurt... tastes almost perfect too, just maybe a little bit creamy, but i'm hoping it will go more sour as it cools... was a bit difficult to get out of the flask too due to the small opening, can anyone tell me where I can get a wider thermos from and how much they are?

I now have a litre of yoghurt in my fridge... how long can i expect it to keep? and how long will it stay good enough to make another load?

Just bought mine from Julian Graves at half price - everything is half price in the shop until Tuesday. Just hope it tastes as good as everyone says!
  • Me too Lara, don't normally live near a Julian Graves but seeing as I'm at my mum's we're near one and I stocked up on some of the mixes as they're useful to keep in the cupboard. Couldn't believe it was all half price.

I have tried the more old fashioned method but I have trouble keeping the starter going constantly which means there's not much in it, money wise, if I have to keep buying a new starter.

    Hi gang

May I just ask then, I dont eat yoghurt but like to use it in cooking. Would it be possible for me to buy the dried powder sachets and then make one up the night before im going to need yoghurt?

This may be an expensive option, however it would be handy as I wouldnt have to make an extra journey (petrol money etc) to the supermarket.

There's been so many times that i've wished i'd had yoghurt in.... and other times i've bought it just in case and ended up giving it to the hens when it went past its sell by date!

Thanks for that, i'll order some sachets now!

I know it will be wasteful, not using some as a starter for my next lot, but we just wouldnt eat it so at least this way i'll have store cupboard supplies for when needed.

    Hi all

I have an easy yo yogurt maker and it has hardly been used. I will be listing it on ebay this week (or the weekend at the latest) if anyone is looking for one!

right i've just had a look at buying the easiyo system and its huge! I only want maybe a cup of yoghurt at a time so i'm going to give it a go in a little flask with just a cupful of milk and a little bit of the sachet mix (saving the rest in an airtight jar)

This will work wont it? I really dont want to use a full pint or so of milk.

I know what will happen, i'll actually like the taste of the yoghurt and start eating it!

Oh I didnt know that, I assumed i'd only be looking at a couple of days.
  • I have an electric yoghurt maker as my attempts at making it any other way failed. I normally use UHT and yogurt but if come across the easiyo powder I buy it and add a few tablespoons of the pack to the milk when I have no yoghurt starter.
