Chistmas Sweet Recipies (merged)

Options
Thought I might make some sweets and chocolates as stocking fillers this year. Does anyone know a good website that gives recipes, or are there some around here ?

Thanks

  • Great minds think alike... I am planning to do the same :D . I have found a few good ideas in the free supermarket mags that you pick up at the checkout - the recipies for kids sections often have some super easy to do ideas. Was browsing to see if there were ideas here within the forum when I found this posting!

    Hi Charlies mum,
I had problems finding a site with a selection, just bits and bobs of recipes here and there. I've got some from recipe books too and have fudge, various truffles, toffee (plain and treacle), nut brittle, coconut squares, buttered brazils and pepermint creams of course. I do have a book of candy recipes but it's american and seems to be too full with no pictures if that makes sense. I can't gauge from the recipes what is actually being made:-). If I have anything you want let me know and I can PM you or post links and if there are any specific you can think of I can see if I have a recipe. Phew, bit of a lengthy answer!

Hi, I am sure there used to be a whole section in os but couldn't find it. You could try looking through these threads though.

It's great fun making sweets and chocolate and you could get kids involved too, even if it's just getting them to decorate them.

  • The peppermint creams sound like a definite, of course, I will have to check them to make sure they're OK ;)

Does anyone have a recipe for fudge please ?

one that uses milk instead of cream so a little cheaper:
    1/2 pint milk
    4oz sugar
    4 oz butter
    vanila essence

Bring the milk slowly to the boil and then add butter and sugar heating slowly until the sugar dissolves/butter melts. Bring to the boil, cover and boil for 2 mins.
Uncover and boil steadily for 15-20 mins until you get to the soft boil stage of 116 degrees (if using a sugar thermometer if not, test that the mixture when dropped into a cup of cold water forms a soft ball when rolled between your fingers
Stir in the vanilla, around 2 tsp, and leave to cool for 5 mins.
Beat until the mixture loses it's glosssines and feels nice and thick. Transfer to a greased tin and mark for cutting when almost set. When cold and set cut through and store in an airtight container.

I'm doing truffles off Deliias site. There's also some stuff on the BBC good food site and there was a thread last week I think on here about truffle recipes.

This one  I'm a big fan of Delia's truffles, too. Messy business, but they freeze reaaly well

  • I'll need to post the recipes when I get in from work but I make fudge, truffles and peppermint creams. I'm going to have a go at marshmallows and turkish delight this year a la Hugh Fearnly thingamy.
Also little gingerbread men or star shaped biscuites make good gifts but you need to make them close to the time you are giving them.
