Brtiannia Music and Film Club and Intrum Justitia

Options
Hi

Any advice on this would be great

I have just received a letter from Intrum Justitia asking for almost £20 from an account passed on from Britannia who are now in administration.

I don't owe Britannia anything, I think its been about a year since I ordered from them and now I get this letter threatening if I don't pay they will add another £20 on in administration fees.

I have phoned IJ and told them this debt doesn't exist and they said they will pass on my reply to their client.

Has anyone had this happen to them, I am frightened that they will come back with an even bigger bill and that it will damage my credit rating.

  • Can you send them a copy of written proof (Last statement) to prove the bill has been paid?
Don't forget to add your £20 administration charge.

If only it was that simple, as they had a detailed online account I didn't keep paper invoices. The site is now no longer accessible. I searched through old e-mails and I have a matching amount back in December 05, my online account all of last year and this year showed a balance of Zero. I am of to the bank tomorrow to see if they can track down a payment for that amount.
  • i have had exactly the same letter this morning i havent a clue what i am supposed to owe money for they cant even give me a number so i can speak to the people who are dealing with brittania. i like yourself am also really worried about the debt mounting up and also getting black marks against my credit history.

Phone, tell them you don't have this debt, they are wrong and before you would even consider paying anything you want to know what its for and from when.

I checked my online account regularly to make sure I had no monthly choices coming my way and it always had a zero balance.
  • Hi

I have just received exactly the same letter and have contacted Intrum Justitia. We advised that they were unable to confirm what this relates to and I would be better just paying the debt then taking my concerns up with Britannia - I refused!!!!
  • Hi I've had one as well mine for £17.99 as I have had iva for 5 years how can they chase me for this?

Looks like they sold a job lot of accounts to IJ.

I would write to IJ asking for them to provide proof of the debt. There is a template letter and a proper way of doing this on the site somewhere. I'm sure one of the experts will be along soon to explain things properly, please wait for them to explain all.

  • I'm glad I'm not alone here. I was searching for any info on this via google and found this thread.

I got a letter today that said I have an outstanding balance of £16.19. This is total rubbish since I have not had anything since about June and that was paid right away. I even have the last thing Britannia Music sent me and that was the Aug book and my statement has that I owe nothing. I was an Elite customer and I'm very angry that after all those years I'm being hunted down for money that I don't owe

I did not even know until today that they had went bust. I just thought they were updating the website as that's what it said the last time I looked. Sure I've never had any books from them for a few months, but since I was not buying anything I never thought about it really.

I called Intrum Justitia today and I've been told that they will look into it. They could not even tell me what I've to pay this £16.19 for? Daft!!! (I thought this was just a scam at first to tell the truth)

At the end of the letter it said If I don't pay I will be charged another £20. After talking to a lass the first call, I did not feel confident enough at what she said, so I called back about 10 mins later (she said she would look into it) and sure enough the guy I talked too said there was nothing on the computer about me even talking to her. He promised me that he will look into it but I'm not sure I believe him:(...Why do I get the feeling I'm going to hear nothing about this for months then get a bill for £100's of pounds?

I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if anybody can help. I told them I'm 100% willing to go to court over this as I have the proof that I owe nothing in front of me from Aug, and I was told that It would never got that far, that they would scrap the dept before it got that far...I should think so as well since it's 100% made up rubbish. (just to make it clear they did not scrap it but said they are looking into it and will get back to me via mail and took my phone number)

    HELp please!!

This is the letter Iwas thinking off. It asks for a copy of the signed credit agreement which they should have and provide. I would bet they don't have it. They need to provide it within 12+2 or else the account is in dispute and you don't provide it after another 30 days you don't have to pay them a bean unless they go to court to sort it.

Send it by recorded delivery so you can prove they recieved it with £1 as required by law. Obviously change details to suit you.

    Dear Sir/Madam

With reference to the above agreement, we would be grateful if you would send us a copy of this credit agreement and a full breakdown of the account including any interest or charges applied.

  • Hi,

I am in the same position as rest of people posting.
Received letter today, but owe Britannia zero....have not ordered for at least 3 years.
Online account no longer available, so hard to prove. Obviously one doesn't keep statements forever.

Called Intrum Justitia who were unhelpful.

Now intend to contact Consumer Direct http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/

They have been helpful in the past, and can advise you exactly what to do.

I suggest everone does the same, and also contact all the help columns in the Press, such as the one in the Guardian (see their website for details)
