Whose fault was it?

I'm driving downhill (not steep, just sloping) and this 4x4 had come from the opposite side of the road to cross my path in order to go down a side street. There was a car infront of her so she wasn't able to turn into the side street and her back end was stationery and sticking out in my side of the road.
I didn't see her til last minute, slammed on my brakes and bumped into her tyre. Those 4x4s have massive wheels and I was in a small car and remember the wheel looming large infront of me.
I reversed to get a safe distance from her car and she turned into side road and stopped. She got out of her car, waving her arms and making a right fuss. I turned into the side street, parked infront of her. To be honest, I was shaking and not thinking straight.
The way she was flailing her arms and shouting I automatically assumed I was in the wrong. I didn't even bother to check my car and went up to hers. No damage to her car, yet she seemed hellbent in getting me to admit fault.
I said, "No damage done." She said "No" and I walked away as she jumped into her car. On close inspection to mine there is some deep gouge marks and the corner bit has been sliced off (a chunk of rubber was hanging off).
It didn't occur to me to get her car details and she didn't get mine. Now I've calmed down I'm thinking it was her fault although from her attitude she was saying it was me to blame.
What do you think? Can I repair the bumper myself, just scuff marks and a bit of rubber that was hanging off? I don't have the money to take it in to a garage to repair. Thanks for any help.

When a moving car hits a stationary car (wherever it is stopped) the accident has to be the fault of the driver of the moving car.
You should have seen her (you don't mention any thing that would impair your view) and you should have stopped in time.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Her truck like car was impairing my view, lol! Only thing was I didn't see it til I was on top of it. I don't see why she created a fuss, it's only metal on wheels and I came off worse. Actually it could have been a lot worse, just glad I wasn't hurt.
Just to add, was she not in the wrong if her way wasn't clear to proceed forward?0 -

Come on, you have money for petrol, insurance, MOT's and road tax (I hope) - and should have enough for servicing too otherwise your car won't last long. Sounds like the damage is superficial anyway and even if you did get her to admit fault and were lucky enough to win a claim off her insurance, your insurance would possibly go up more than the repair would cost. Lack of servicing could contribute to the brakes not operating at peak efficiency.0 -

How?????
Can you post a diagram?0 -
I was reading on here that a bumper can cost a couple of hundred to replace, money I don't have and thought maybe there was something I could do to repair the thing myself.0

I think that you are being rather simplistic.
If a car turns right across the oncoming traffic they have the responsibility to make sure that they complete the manoeuvre safely.0 -
If shes waiting to turn right & you hit her, its your fault.
How can you say the car in front of her was blocking your view of her when you said she had a big 4x4? Surely if she was bigger than the car, you would see her behind the car?

But you said she was stationary?
IF she was stationary when you hit her, you were in the wrong & lucky you didn't damage her car, otherwise your insurance would be going up.
How can you hit her & think its her fault?0 -
MrsE she had made the turn, her rear end was sticking out across my path and she couldn't move forward as there was traffic in the side street preventing her from moving forward. I don't think she should have turned if her way wasn't clear to make a turn.
By the way, I was joking about the fact she was impairing my view. Just trying to make light out of a bad situation!0 -

if she was parked on the pavement sticking out into your lane, and you hit her, would it be your fault or hers?0
