Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 19th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums.
Mioliere - Hope you feel better soon and start to get your energy back.
Redruby - the story of your dog racing back to the car and leaving you behind made me chuckle.
Janiebaby - Good to see you posting again
Elona - glad you are starting to feel better hon
Celyn -
Jackie - It's sometimes the little things that make us the happiest and now you have all that extra room to fill up so no wonder you are pleased!
jc27 - Congrats to your son, and yes, your car will be MIA a lot now!!
Broomstick - good to see you hon and very impressed with the Christmas Carol soup!
Mummysaver - Am so impressed with the grown up way you ended the relationship.. and I am sure your exOH will make a good friend - after all, as you said, you trusted him with your kids so he obviously is a nice person. Hope the scan goes well honey.
PurpleIvy - mouse footprints? Did you leave a sprinkling of flour everywhere so they left lil marks?
Treated myself to some new sheets from Amazon today as they were reduced in price. Link HERE. My Super-king size were around £10 reduced down from £34, and I had vouchers in stock which was even better.
Made a rather delicious bread pudding today and some scones which were really easy and tasty. This is the recipe and it made 10 reasonably sized scones.
Apricot Scones
8oz self raising flour (I used half white and half wholemeal)
(just under) 1 tsp granulated sweetener (or about an oz of sugar I guess)
2oz lard
2 - 3 oz chopped ready-to-eat apricots (I guess if you use dried you would need to soak them first)
6 fl oz apricot yoghurt
pinch salt
I must do a Tesco order as I have run out of white wine vinegar. I have some rather nice cider vinegar but not sure if that would work in the WM like the white does? I read on another thread that white wine vinegar can take out stale smells from clothes if they are washed in it but no-one mentioned cider vinegar...
To everyone who is poorly
- get well soon. I hope today is the best it can be for everyone.
With love, light and warm squidgy
to all.

6 fl oz apricot yoghurt

- Sift the flour and add the sweetener and salt and rub in the lard
- Add the chopped apricots and mix in the yoghurt til you have a stiff dough. (I found I needed a drop of milk too)
- Roll the mixture out and cut into scone sized rounds.
- Grease a baking tray and place the scones on it.
- Bake in a hot oven at 220 C for about 10 mins or until they smell done! (or look golden brown)

Morning MSD & all who follow
I'm off to work soon, I wonder what today will bring, maybe a trip to the Head's office, the person who swore at me said he would report me, that will be interesting.
I need to do a load of baking when I get home tonight, we have a cake sale tomorrow & most of the people who normally contribute are out sick.
Yesterday 7 of our Admin team applied for a job at another school, sort of shows how happy everyone is.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone.
As soon as we went to bed last night the wind picked up and it's still going strong. Had a bad night with the kids so all I want to do now is
Had a nice meal out with two friends last night, had chicken and leek pie which was deliciousHad a good natter too which isn't always possible when we meet up with all our kids in tow (there are all the same ages).
Tea should be a makeshift night tonight so might either have a baked spud or decide to cook something else.
H did the ironing last night and washing is nearly up to date. Got to get a present for a little girls birthday, taking DS to her party on Sunday.
Made some cup cakes yesterday and iced them with chocolate buttercream icing. What can I say they go down perfectly with a cup of tea!
Hester - your school sounds like a deeply unhappy one. Hope your day is better today.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all,
More rain due today and all weekend , slightly fed up with it now.
Off to work today. My neighbour put a note through the door saying that she would be away until mid Dec (lucky thing) her fence was down a bit anyway, but came home yesterday and it has shattered and is all over my garden, the rest of it doesn't look too safe either, OH and I will have to get out there and stack it in her gadren, and try to repair some damage.
Easy tea tonight of pizza and chips, I think there is 1/2 box fish fingers in the freezer, to will use them up too. Sainsbugs delivery tonight.
Hugs where needed, have fun all xx0 -
Morning all
Day off today and as usual can't sleep:mad: But nevermind as I have another day off tomorrow and then the weekend:j:j:j:j:j
Decided to book Friday off when I was at work yest as I was feeling decidedly under the weather, sore throat, headache - the usual, but not too bad so far this morning so hopefully it will not develop into much and I can use the day off then for Christmas shopping:D
We are quite lucky at work in that when it comes to December we get a half days paid holiday for Chistmas shopping as part of our Present from the Docs - as I only work half a day on a friday this means I can have a long weekend, so have booked mine for week before Christmas week. So that is another long weekend to look forward to:D
Have not caught up with yest thread yet so will read back shortly. ((((HUGS)))) to all that need or want them. Probably be back later, have Dentist today so hope that doesn't cost me too much.
Good luck with the MOT N9eav
Redruby isn't it always typical that something like that would happen just after she goes away.
Bitsy I have the cup of tea in hand just need the cupcake now!:D
Hester - were you one of the seven??
Diva thanks for the recipe might just do those this weekend
Have a good day all
x"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"Dieting ........... is no piece of cake!!!!:D

Hester Sorry your job is so tough at the moment
Diva I have some apricot yoghurt that wants using up so I'll definitely give the scones a go, thanks for the recipe
My plans for today are to get MIL into this home after all the messing about yesterday. I also need to get some ironing done - it appears to be breeding in the basket at the moment
Lunch will be a sandwich & soup and dinner this evening is a Dhal curry & rice. I shall be stirfrying some chicken strips and putting them into the dhal to make it more eatable for the meat lovers
Have an good day & don't get too blown about by the winds. Hugs for anyone who needs one and hope that the poorlies are soon feeling brighter0 -
Hi,
Im feeling surprisingly perky this morning. Not sure why but it makes a nice change :j Perhaps im getting festive. I had a very interesting neurology appointment yesterday and I feel more hopeful. A fresh pair of eyes and a different opinion
OS - washing as I am still catching up and hopefully my cleaner is coming today. I have a lot of eggs to use so will have to think about using them up.
Hugs to those in need.

Morning All
I'm off work until Monday :j fancied a long weekend so put a holiday in for today (don't work fridays usually) I do have quite a few (11:eek:) MS Jobs to do over today and tomorrow but hopefully I can do them en-route to get the xmas shopping sorted.
By the end of the weekend I would like DS-D and DS-S done (DD is already done) then I can just leave the money in the bank for DS1 & 2 til they decide what they want. DH is done and I have some crabtree & evelyn cookies, sactuary smellies and thorntons choccies to make into little hampers for the family from the kids - just need to get some diabetic choccies and some 'male' smellies for DH's grandad.
DS1 is at work today so the car will be mine today...well from 11-7 at least:T and DS2 is off to day and wants to go to his GF's house but don't mind as 2 MS jobs are over her way!
Right better go and get some organisation into action - busy couple of days and then hopefully a relaxing Saturday & Sunday. DH's eldest daughter still lives with her mum and its her weekend to come to us....she can be quite 'hard work' (takes after her mother apparantly;)) so I may even indulge in a little alcohol this weekend!
Hope everyone as a good day (as good as it can be when the weather is this bad!)

Morning all
It's sooo windy here, feels like we're going to take off! Now on my days off, yipee! Have lots of jobs to do as always, going to hairdressers once kids have gone to school, then I may venture into town to the scales in Boots - hoping to have lost some weight this week after staying the same last week, need to keep focused. Will make some hob nobs today, also need to change our bed, have a basket full of ironing, then do the housework, as I'm now starting to keep on top of the cleaning I should be able to get everything done - we're going away for 1 night on Saturday morning and won't be back until Sunday afternoon so won't have any time to do much when we get back and I'm working on Monday. Also want to get a price comparison shopping list done on mysupermarket also need to order my Christmas meat from the butchers. Really need to sort the remaining Christmas shopping so I have that done and wrapped as we've just found out that my dad has to go to hospital on 16 Dec for a pre-op and in on the 18 Dec for an angi-gram (sp?) and depending what they find they may do the necessary whilst he's in - so we really have no clue as to what will happen re Christmas etc. Fingers crossed that everything does according to plan. My kids are really close to my parents and am dreading if things don't have a positive outcome as my children will be devastated and until now dad has been really fit and well and this has come as a complete bolt out of the blue, he's was 70 in April and such a fit and active man - he's always been really careful with food and drink and exercised etc.
Anyway, I know the hospital will do their best and everything will be ok. I also know that there are many families/people in much worse situations than us so need to keep everything in perspective! Keep trying to think positive!
Have to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all :hello:
Stuck at home for a few days - Doctors orders, so I am finding more time to read the Daily.
Planning to do beef casserole and dumplings today as the weather seems to warrant it! Not sure yet what to make to fill up the oven, might make Nigella's gingerbread have to check the oven temps...
DD has gone off to school with a HM cheese roll, parsnip crisps and shorbread and a fruit shoot. I gave her a piece of choc on her way out as she is "time of the month" for the first time and looked so woebegone my heart went out to her..0
