What you say appears to contradict EBICOs ethical stance. I think you should contact EBICO direct and explain your situation and what you have experienced. If you phone them, the helpline is only open mornings (8:00 to 1:30 I think).

I think it's totaly unfair that the prepayment tariffs are the highest with every supplier. As I uderstand (I am a foreigner temorarily living in UK and I have never seen this kind of meters before) prepayment meters are invented for people with difficulties to pay their bills. So the poorest have to pay the highest price.
I am not in such situation but being a tenant I have no choice but use the prepayment meter fixed by the landlord. I tried four different suppliers and British Gas is no doute the worse and none is really good both for prices an for customer service.
From the beginning of March I am with Ebico but still didn't feel a difference. Their scheme works in a very strange way for prepayment meters. Currently I am paying a standard Southern Electric tariff WITH standing charge and 2 tiers prices depending on cosumption. These prices are very high and compare only with British gas prices. Ebico promises to "credit the customer with the standing charge and the difference between the EQUIGAS or EQUIPOWER rate and the rate the meter is charging so as to ensure the same financial result " but I still don't know how. A brief comunication with Soutern Electric didn't give me answer. At least I know it should happen every quarter. As it seems there are no internet accounts for prepayment customers.
By the way Powergen provides internet accounts for all customers.

Yes your right it is confusing......i had the same problem when i was on a prepayment meter however every 90 days they should send you a cheque with the cash they owe you............its just that the meters are provided by only a few companies here and they are pre set with standing charges so to make life difficult should you change.......

I am now in the process of signing up for Ebico gas and electric. I have been mulling what to do for quite a while and have just taken the plunge.

Talk about bad timing, Martin MSE now recommends going with a capped or prices frozen supplier as it is rumoured there will be big rises on the way. (The news from British Gas confirms as much.)

However, I'm still of the opinion that I am doing the right thing. Ebico comes out 22% cheaper at present than SWEB and British Gas. None of the "frozen prices" suppliers can come anywhere near this. I suppose at the end of the day I will be proven right or wrong after Ebico decides how much its prices have to rise by.

Anyone got a crystal ball going spare?

    Could you please clarify?

Have you signed up and are still waiting to hear from them, or have you sent a preliminary e-mail to query a few things first?

I sent an e-mail requesting to join up and received a reply saying I would hear from my existing supplier. I sent another e-mail saying I had heard nothing, then nothing....for a month

I requested to join up just over a week ago. The e-mail I got said that I would hear from their agents, Southern Electric or SWALEC within the next 10-14 days. The e-mail then gave an 0845 number for gas and another one for electric if I had any queries in the meantime.

Did your e-mail mention these numbers and have you considered ringing them?

I just had my card through the post this morning from Southern Electric to welcome me as a new customer. They have given a number to ring if I have any queries, open 8-8 Mon-Fri & 8-2 Sat.

They were able to check on both my gas and electric merely by giving them a postcode and house no. The no is 0800 117 116. Might be worth ringing this no as will not cost anything.

    Hi folks,
Im thinking of switching to EBICo & just wondered how things are 12 months on... Did the switch go OK & is the helpline still with Southern Electric?
    Thanks.
