Oh God, the offer that refuses to die!
If you are dithering about this, go for it now.

Anyone got the spec or more details, including phone number as I missed out last time. ta0

Sorry I don't have a copy of the paper to hand, what are the specs?0

Hi - Just tried to buy 2 of those 299 pound laptops. You are put through to an Indian call centre and I don't actually think they want to sell them at that price.
I was told that we needed a better system to go use for the internet, that the system is actually aimed at children, that no sound card is include and that the system is only guaranteed for 90 days. Absolute rubbish in my opinion as our current desktop is absolutely fine for the internet and has is of a lower spec and isn't everything we buy in the UK guaranteed by law for a year??
The guy would not let me buy the system he kept trying to sell me either a higher spec or wanted to include extra items for extra costs.
I asked him why I couldn't buy what I wanted and he said he wanted to check and call me back?? I don't expect to hear from him.
Has anyone been able to buy one.0 -
Got one through the original offer. Got througthto the Indian call centre, but was forwarded to "UK sales" which seemed to be in Ireland. Got the blurb about not being able to get on the internet (why include a wifi card, then?), not being able to watch DVDs, no other upgrades being compatible after it had left factory etc! Stood firm - said it was only for children to use as word-processor for homework (then tried to sell me a printer!). I was sent a quote/specs by email, accepted that by return. Then they sent me an offer, which I again accepted and finally an order number and customer number. System was trackable and the laptop arrived a couple of days later."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

as you can see it went on for ages...
The trick here is to say that you have spoken to customer services, that there is a "cradle to grave" system in operation (actually use this expression), get the salesman's name, and explain that if he refuses to sell you the laptop, or if he hangs up on you (it happens) you will call customer services and give them your number, and from your telephone number they will track back to the salesman directly. This is absolutely true. They then get severely disciplined.
I've had 6 of these laptops at £299 now and they are exceptional value.
Order it!
Let us know how you get on...0 -
I have one from last time - its brill! Bought it off the web last time for £386 (upgrade screen and battery)- then rang and said I wanted to cancel as it was £40 less in the paper- they then offered me astuff to not cancel, but eventually, refunded me the difference! All from Indian call centre... ta da!
Needs the extra memory tho bring it upto 512mb (mine is at 768mb) and its brilliant. Surfs the web, word process, play DVD's all at the same time! I got my memory from CRUCIAL direct - not the cheapest (£36 for 512mb) but works perfectly and was a 1 minute upgrade!0 -
Can someone please post up the details of the screen upgrade & extended battery upgrade so that I can ask for them specifically?
Many thanksdesrever sthgir lla0 -
...the screen upgrade is to 15.4" (the laptop casing is the same size for either screen) and is £35, the battery upgrade is to a 6 cell battery, not sure of exact price, £30 ish?
I got one last weekend, standard memory is fine, but I've stuck in an extra 512mb for £45 from crucial (now only £36), also got the screen upgrade and got the 3yr at home service for £380 in total after a bit of bargaining.0 -
'battery upgrade is to a 6 cell battery, not sure of exact price, £30 ish?'
Battery upgrade from 4 to 6 cell is only £11.0
