This is the place to stop faffing and start focusing!

This time last year, pollydaydream set up a challenge to pay £20,000 off her debt. OK, it sounds like a lot of money, but a lot of us have big debt numbers and so when you think about it, we may be reducing £1000 + per month just by making our minimum payments and not taking out any extra debt.

That means that if we focus on the debt, and stick to our budgets, we may well be able to pay back £12,000 ish just by making our normal payments!

So with a bit of focus on those budgets, a bit of effort to raise some extra money to throw at the debt, and a huge amount of "not faffing" WE CAN DO THIS!

So, whether you have £19,999 of debt to your name, or £100,000 outstanding, why not join in the challenge! If you can pay off £20,000 (ish) by Christmas 2009, think of the progress you will have made!

Of course, if £20,000 is not your "number" then you can work to your own figures.......personally I will be aiming a little higher at £30,000 but pick your own number and let me know!

The challenge starts on 1st December so post here with your targets and then as from Monday you can start totalling up your payments (just right for those 1st month direct debits :D )

  • Hi guys - can I join this year please?? I have just shy of £18k of debt and aim to get rid of this by xmas next year.
I currently have £1800 in an ISA which I intended to use to pay off EGG in feb when my 0% runs out but have managed to get CC down to £820 so far (thanks to Emilys wonderful payment a day!) so this will go in the new year and the rest off my small loan which has about £2800 outstanding. I am expecting a check for about £1000 from the university for a refund of fees before xmas and this will go off the loan too.
This will leave me about £14k to HSBC which was my graduate loan taken out 2004 at 6.9%. I have about 3 years left to run but intend on using the monthly money i would of spent on the CC and loan towards it which should make it about £800 monthly payments. if I can find an extra £366 per month I might just be able to do it!!!!

    good luck everyone

    jenny
  • Can I join please? Feeling like I need a challenge!! 20k is a good target. would then leave me with about 15k debt (yuk!) :O)

  • Ooooh can I join you please?

I'll be working part time next year (17hrs) so realistically I'd like to aim for £8k although I'd love it to be more! My standard repayments would be £5500 so I'm looking to overpay £2500 :)

I'm in two minds about this. Don't want to set my targets too high in case it just depresses me when I can't get there. PLUS we want to have another baby next year which wil scupper things....

Anyway, I'll say that I want to try and pay off our credit card debts total, which is currently £9k. So let's make that a round £10k and that'll get rid of my flexiloan too.

Eek! Seems a lot. But am up for it!
