Terms & Conditions of my last contract with Scottish Power
Section 3 “If you cancel your Online Fixed Saver November 2017 by switching to another energy supplier before 30th November 2017 and the transfer to a new supplier is fully completed before 13th October 2017, we will apply exit fees.”
I’d have the feeling this would apply for all switches because the material condition here is the date at which the switch takes place and when the new supplier is liable for providing that supply and not at the point where the consumer makes an application to request a new supplier to provide energy.
Personally, I'd check the terms with the contract I have though...0 -

Thank you. I have not seen that condition before in any of the contracts that I have entered into. My reading of SLCs is that a fixed term contract is just that ‘a fixed term’. Some suppliers do not take any action during the ‘cooling off’ period so it is possible to initiate a switch at contract at, say, contract end minus 63 days without breaching the 49 day rule on exit fees. Suppliers signed up to 17 day switching may well initiate a transfer of supply during the ‘cooling off’ period which could result in notice to terminate being given before the 49 day point is reached.
Personally, I do not take the risk of getting into an argument about exit fees to save a few pence. That said, it will become a somewhat academic argument as Ofgem is working towards one day switching with the ‘cooling off’ period becoming a reverse transfer process if a consumer cancels. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. @Hengus
It's a good point you make, making me wonder if there has ever been a switch completed in less than 14 days. I'd tend to believe most suppliers will all sit on their hands and wait 14 days before doing anything, simply because it would be too much bother for them to reverse a switch should a customer change their mind.
It's good to hear Ofgem's working towards a one day switch which confirms to me that I'm not the only one thinking they're currently too slow and that it is possible to do it a lot quicker.0 -
I have switched from Ovo to Breeze and cancelled my direct debit wit Ovo to avoid paying 2 D/D a day apart.
Despite having been in telephone contact with them and emailing them I still got a letter questioning why I had cancelled my d/d and threatening debt collectors.
Seems that they cant marry the information up in between departments.
Also when do I change the info on the Energy Club or wait until the actyal day the change goes through?
Ovo used to be good but their customer service has deteriorated.0 -

If Ovo are threatening debt collectors then the implication is that your account is in debt and there is a possibility they may object to the switch. Have they objected to the switch?
When I left Ovo, I asked them to cancel the DDs once I had the switch confirmed from the new supplier and they effectively refused on the dubious grounds that they were "unable" to. I cancelled at my bank, anyway.
The truth is probably that their staff are such a bunch of amateurs that their system dare not let them interfere with anything to do with their financing.
As you say, they used to be first class but Oh how things have changed.
Edit
As I understand it, CEC will reset your account once it has been advised of the switch completion. If you need to reset before then, you can contact them by email.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I use the MSE energy club to check on tariffs. I last used it in September 2017 to switch to OVO energy, which I did successfully. After getting my MSE email today, I thought I would check out the energy club today. Once I had signed in it told me I was still in a switch that hadnt completed - but I could still search if I wanted. Why hasnt MSE Enegy club updated since September with my current details, there doesn seem to be a place I can update my current tariffs?0

That's strange - I've just checked and we're showing it on the results page. Could you drop us an email through to energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com and we'll take a look for you.0 -
