I'm in the same boat, keep checking the cheap energy club comparison but for electric at least I'll be paying around £7 a month more (can save £1 or more per month on gas). I like that Iresa though as I'd not heard of them before and their quote for me was better than those in the energy club here...
I was looking around to consider other lesser known suppliers and found a list on OFGEM's site but didn't fancy researching all in the list:

  • Hi all,

We're planning to run another collective switch early this year, but don't yet have any details around dates which we can share.

However the market's a little tricky at the moment and the cheapest deal available today might not be available in a few weeks' time. We've seen the price of the cheapest energy deal jump over £100 per year (on typical use) in the last couple of months, and with rising wholesale costs the trend's likely to continue.

You can either fix and lock in your prices now to be safe, or hold on to see if we can negotiate a better deal.

If we are able to run another collective, then it'll be written about in the weekly Money Tips email which you can sign up to here:

    Thanks,
    MSE Laura

I've jumped on a 1 year fix with no tie in, so this should be ideal. Thanks for the info!

Which company did you go for aduffell, Avro?
Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

  • Cancelled my smart meter appointment so I'm wondering whether to start the switch now or wait until nearer the end of the fix in case a collective does appear. Don't want to complicate matters by being mid switch and then trying to switch again - not even sure I could do that anyway.

Don't forget to check whether using separate gas and electricity would be cheaper - I was on the BG Feb 2017 fix, but jumped ship in early December. I found Better Energy for Gas and Places for People for electricity the cheapest - the gas is fixed for 2 years and actually works out cheaper than the gas supplied via the British Gas Collective Fix. The electricity deal with PfP worked out more expensive but when I do the comparisons now using my current choices as the starting point on the Cheap Energy Club site it's clear to me I did the right thing, even after paying the £60 exit fee.

    Hi all,
Good to hear there's another collective switch in the making, look forward to seeing that soon.
I found that a supplier not on the cheap energy club was also cheaper for me than the cheapest, even after cashback and fixed for a year too with no exit fees.
I was thinking of doing the same as aduffell but wondered if I could switch to the new supplier from the end date of my BG Collective Switch tariff? If I started it now I take it I'm safely within the 50 days of the BG Collective switch ending and won't be charged anything to leave?
Is there a chance that BG could try and persuade me to stay with some kind of special retention deal as Scottish Power tried to get me to stay before I went to BG?
