Beverley BS monthly saver is now open to new applications. Can apply by post. Can't see that there are any geographical restrictions. 2.1% including bonus.

Interesting rule on how much you can pay in...
"Your initial investment of between £10 and £1,000 will be your agreed monthly subscription and must be maintained for at least six months. Any alteration after that time must be agreed with the Society."

The HSBC Advance account, which enables the 6% on the HSBC Regular Saver, is now available without a monthly charge. It does, however, require a monthly deposit of £1,750 (as opposed to the £500 the Bank account needs) so may only appeal to experienced multi-accounters.

Changing from Bank to Advance can be done on 0800 130 130, and they will want to be assured that your min £1,750 comes from a salary or a pension. I told them I would get my pension paid into HSBC instead of into FD but would keep the FD for the FD Regular Saver and they were fine with that. They'll also want to know why you want the Advance account, so it's worth reviewing before the call which of the Advance features attracted you. It was the £500 ATM limit, no HSBC non-sterling cash fees (whatever those might be) and preferential loan and savings rates for me

The non-sterling cash fees bit looks interesting until you read note 3 where it says that some machine operators will levy a charge!

*3These transactions are subject to a non-sterling transaction fee, currently 2.75% of the amount of the transaction. Some cash machine operators may apply a direct charge for withdrawals from their cash machines. This will be advised at the time of the withdrawal.

Thanks colsten. I'll have a look at that one. I think I can claim to be an experienced multi-accounter :p

I'll need to dig a bit deeper into the 'no non-sterling cash fees' as there still seems to be a 2.75% 'non-sterling transaction charge' but that could be what attracts me, as an international jetsetter :p and regular visitor to Hong Kong.

Yeah I know. I didn't say I'd ever use the card (or the account as a current account) ;).

    Agreed :)

My son has been out there since August 2012 and is now on a permanent contract, so I've been 3 times already :T

Lifestyle is definitely more suited to him (30s) than me (60s) :p

Its very much a 'love it' or 'hate it' place though and not for the faint hearted. Buy a fish from a bucket on a street stall and watch them scale and gut it while the heart is still beating
