. . . In any case these tariffs are shown to be £159 cheaper for us than the MSE EON dual fuel tariff.
You don't say whether the tariffs you have recently moved to are fixed or variable. That could make a significant difference. The £5 per fuel exit fee also seems attractive to anyone thinking of a punt with this collective.

I've never used the Cheap Energy Club but if they are saying your present tariffs are cheaper than the E.on tariffs then I would say it confirms you have done better than CEC.

Bear in mind, however, that it is probable that the smaller energy suppliers would not be able to effectively handle the numbers they are hoping will take up the E.on offer. Customer service is probably a major consideration for MSE -- they have made special arrangements for switchers.

You could use a comparison site to confirm you still have a competitive tariff on the open market and if the MSE collective is still more expensive then all credit to MSE for pointing it out to you.

  • Whatever has happened to the £30 cashback for the collective switch to Eon that I saw a few minutes ago? I didn't switch just then as I was checking the exact tariff that I am on right now.
Doesn't seem like the high ethics that I expect from MSE.

And the £30 cashback is back!!

    Confused?????

And now the switch is complete.
  • Hey Guys

I did a switch via the Cheap Energy club back in August to the Eon Fixed 1yr v7 online, and my account still says "switch in progress", so I can't do a correct comparison, even though the switch is done in Eons eyes.

I emailed about MSE about this, and was told to just open a new account with the new tarrif details, but a different email address. Great, I thought, I can do a comparison etc.

Now, when I have done so, it says that the Eon 1yr Fixed Collective switch will save me £39 a year (it said £49 yesterday, but nevermind).

Anyway, I pay Eon currently by Fixed Direct debit, and plan to do so if I switch to this new tarrif today. So my questions are

    1) Do I pay the £10 exit fee if I move from on Eon product to another?
    2) Will my current direct debit be the same for the new tarrif?
    3) Will I be billed after switching to this new one, for the energy used between switching to them, and switching to this "new" tarrif?

And presumably, this would be treated as a new 12 month fix, and would run twelve months from the date of switch, and my old one would be discarded, correct?

    I hope that makes sense.

Also, would I still get cashback for the first switch, and would I be eligible for the £30 cashback on the second switch? Or would I just be paid once, or worse, not at all?

I want to go ahead, just need to be sure of it being right, in my mind!

    Thank you all in advance

    1) You are on a 1 year fix. To leave it, you must pay the exit penalty.
Only if you talk to E.On and they agree to let you switch to another of their tariffs without an exit fee will you avoid it.
2)Your DD amount is set based on your anticipated annual usage. It may change if you change tariffs, you just need to make sure you are paying enough to cover your expected annual cost.
    3) You will be billed on your "old" tariff up to the date you move to the new one, then on the new one from that date on.

It would be treated as a new 12 month fix from the date you switch to it.

  • Hello Money Savers,

I'm having a look at the EON big switch plan and trying to compare to my existing deal. However, I cannot see if the prices for the plans listed on the cheap energy club page include VAT or not. As the prices are similar this would make a difference.
Anyone notice any small print about VAT on the prices for these deals?

    Hi indierocker85

Victor2 has posted some excellent advice. Thought I'd confirm the details and add a couple of things.

There's no exit fee when switching from one E.ON tariff to another.

Monthly Direct Debits are based on usage and current prices. Changing the tariff may lead to a request to change the monthly payments.

If you've registered with our website, you can take more control over these payments through the Direct Debit Manager. Comes in handy should circumstances change.

Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, you can change the monthly payments by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.

We'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit if the change is confirmed but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

You can change tariff either online or by phoning us. The change will take place immediately unless you tell us otherwise. You can, if you wish, delay the change by up 52 days.

Billing at the new prices will start from the day the switch is asked for.

You're spot on about the tariff being a new 12 month fix. The new fixed tariff will run for 12 months from the date the switch goes through and replace your existing tariff.

Hope this helps indierocker85. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

  • Hi all
    First post on the forum.
Just wanted to say nice one regarding the energy saving club.
I've been with First Utility just over 12 months and have had lots of issues with the billing. So much so I've decided to move and it looks like Eon are going to save me around £300 per year.
I never did see the cash back when I initially moved to them but to be fair although I followed an MSE link the deal was done via U Switch.
I'm a bit sceptical about cash back offers TBH and see them purely as a bonus if I do get them. Primarily I'm interested in the bottom line. ;)

For anyone looking at the options, do consider npower.

Their customer service is still diabolical, everything they do seems to go wrong and create further problems on your account, meter readings sent in frequently fail to find their way onto your account, their bills are an incomprehensible mess, they overcharge on your direct debits and then refuse to reduce the charge.........the list goes on and on (and I speak with considerable experience of them, having two separate accounts).

BUT........you can be sure that they'll make such a mess of your account that compensation is pretty much a given. Frequent compensation payments will help keep your energy bills down. No other energy provider can help you to save like npower - but you do need limitless time to deal with them.

The staff are delightful - but the systems always defeat them. :)
