Hi Stevie01 - You don't say in your post, but if the E_green people stated that you qualified for a free boiler, then I guess that you may be on one of the various qualifying benefits?.

    Hiya Dave,

    I don't qualify via benefits.

    Hi all,

Thanks to your assorted replies on this. As per what I think it says somewhere on this site, 'if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is good to good to be true'. That was how the episode with egreen energy sounded and indeed turned out to be.

Re the whole green deal thing. Personally its not for me, certainly not at present. That I am getting some free lift insulation from Mark Group on Monday, I just regard that as a nice little bonus. Otherwise based on my personal circumstances currently, I won't be signing up for the Green Deal. I of course understand that everyone's circumstances are different and wish well to those who feel the Green Deal is for them.

first, a little background about me.
i started work at 17 and finished 5.5years ago. during that time, i was made redundant 3 times. once, i found a new job straight away, once i went a year without finding a new job and once i retrained for 1year.
during all this time, i suffered from severe asthma, which escalated to COPD. i always did my best to carry on all aspects of life, including physical activities outside work and quite strenuous work.
in 2007, i had to quit through ill health but had worked hard and paid off the mortgage, so at least the house was ours (been married several years).
the pay in my last job was not sufficient to live on but i was lucky enough access to a small pension from a previous employer. that obviously has reduced income until i officially retire.
my boiler is a good 20years old, so when i saw government schemes for boiler replacement, i checked out.
the 'free boiler' isn't available to me as i am on the wrong benefit. so, even at 62 YOA, and on a annual income of fractionally over £9k, including my early acquired pension, i cant get a free boiler. i found that to be extremely discriminatory, but typical of this government's attitude towards anyone that is unable to work until they drop, thus saving even the OAP from being paid out.
when i looked at this 'Green Deal' and had a BG guy come and do an assessment, i found the average price of a new boiler of £2300 a joke! all i needed on top of a boiler was a 4mtr pipe changed from 15mm to 22mm and a new hot water tank with included immersion. the price i was given was £3607! i struggle to think how a new tank and immersion are worth £1300!
when i was then told how much it would cost over various terms to repay the amount if it was added to my energy bills, i was quite amazed! even for 12 months, the extra amount was £30/month! how am i supposed to pay that off? i cant even get a reduction on my council tax!
my wife has numerous qualifications but has been unable to find a job, has exhausted her JSA and obviously moved on to a different list, so is effectively out of the Governments hair and off their statistics list.
i was told i could increase my income by claiming extra for her on my IB. that would have meant £10/week but if she became employed, i would have to tell the benefits office, obviously, but then ALL money would stop, not just the extra. it took a year of fighting to get that benefit in the first place! the other alternative of getting pension credit could increase income by about £100/month. the same thing then happens and it stops if she gets a job.
i paid into the system for £37 years, but now i need help in return, the Government wants to put the onus on to her and then penalise me further by saying that, even in your 60s, on an income less than £15,800, you are not entitled to anything, so suffer and get on with it!
anyone going after this 'Green Deal' be aware of what you are letting your self in for! it is definitely not a 'Deal' for you, but a money spinner for the energy companies and the Government!
    now there's a surprise!!

sorry for the length of the post, but i feel better now!!

Had the assessment done by British Gas - See earlier post - not impressed, However, pressed on to get some provider quotes - very confusing info on Green Deal Orb Site about providers in my area + the ones that are there on the site look like johnny come lately companies set up to clean up on the green deal !!! not to be put off i rang british gas as per the covering letter that i got with the assessment ''.....if you would like to get a personalised quote on some or all of the products recommended ......'' call this number ... so i did, guess what, British Gas cannot do anything in terms of quotes or discussing my report as the funding is yet to be relased _ theyve took my number so they can contact me at some time ___ totally ridiculous - theyve took my £100 pound for an assessment that did not tell me as much as i already know and then cant follow through on their poor assessment .........

THEY NEVER DID CALL ME BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Well I've had to give up trying as I have found out,via some advisory service, that under the ECO/affordable warmth part the companies involved are not obliged to cover all the various installations and can choose what measures they wish to cover.
The woman who sent me the email was trying to help and came back after a week as she said she would have to do some research on it.
You could tell she was disappointed with the result.
I could get some grant from the micro regeneration scheme but it's only £1300 and I was looking in to air pumps but they don't cover air to air only air to wet systems i.e. radiators.
Which brings me back to square one as I don't have central heating.
The cost would be astronomical if I had to have radiators installed so that's it.
Another Govt. scheme that doesn't work!!

Had a Green Deal assessment carried out months ago on my solid walled house. Told would be eligble for ECO funding for solid wall insulation. Received EPC but despite many calls and emails nothing more heard from assessor.
Anyone know of a provider who will do internal wall insulation on green deal in Yorkshire?

    Steve

was he from a company called viscount?
i have had numerous blokes coming round and drilling holes in walls, going over the same ground each time,
    nothing has materialised as yet.
have phoned a couple of times, and get response that it is in process going through various departments for approval.
or i will get called back with more info about how far it is progressed.
no-one ever phones back., have given up on them now,
its just that they have delayed me , and i have had other people knocking on door who i have turned away, due to the fact that these lot were going to deal with it.
initially, i was told that they would be doing the cavity wall and some remedial work to the property.
any advice of any other reliable company i can contact.
i am in south yorkshire as well
    Nice to save.
  • Who the hell is actually doing Green Deal finance yet?

British Gas website has been saying "shortly" for the past year and WarmUpNorth said they were starting in November but still haven't.

No wonder the whole deal is a national flop.
  • Last Tuesday 19 November 2013 Energy and climate change minister Greg Barker said: "Over 100,000 Green Deal assessments have now taken place. By the end of September there were :

    - 392 households with a 'new' plan
    - 505 with 'pending'
    - 57 'live'
    - 12 green deals had been 'completed'

So apart from the £2.8 mi££ions spent it and the 6,512 cashback vouchers up to the end of September '13 with a total value of nearly£1.8m 12 - yes - just 12 green deals were completed.

100,000 assessments at about £100 a pop were paid and 5 have completed. If that's the case what is the green steal all about ? .. .. ah! yes Feb of this year, about 700 posts ago in this very thread :

The real outcomes are the UK governments (1) employment figures and (2) carbon reduction and air quality requirements :

    - the Governments own predicted green deal figures would create 100,000 jobs by 2016
    - improved air quality [£0.3bn to £0.4bn]
    - non-traded carbon savings [1.1bn to £2.0bn]
    - traded carbon allowance savings [£0.7bn to £1.0bn]
    - the government would save at least the £100 million allocated for the Warm Front scheme [12 Dec 2012] 2012-13

"""In a few years time, this will be a future mis-selling scandal. There will be a mis-selling claim back guide from MSE."""

    - prophetic, and a real time event, the Paul Daniels free insulation pulling very expensive thermal rabbits out of hats
    - happening as we speak .. .. each hour of each day to the unwary, old and cold pay for one of these assessments

  • Just post the link, but edited so that the software does not recognise it:

You are obviously not some sort of spamming bot machine:D
  • Ok just go to yougen dot co dot uk then click on "blog"
    in the blog search enter:
what help can I get with heating under the affordable warmth scheme?
you should now get my post starting "I have a typical sixties semi"

It's quite long but the first half of the answer is the official reply she received followed by her response.
    thanks
