I usually spend the following at work:

    £1.30 - porridge
    £1.70 - morning coffee
    .65 - can of coke
    £2.25 - sandwich
    £1.60 - yoghurt
    £1.70 - afternoon coffee
    Total - £9.20 per day/£46 per week!

The plan is to take cereal with me and a thermos of cold milk. I'm going to use the milk for the cereal and some for coffee from the machine (which is free!).

I'm going to make sandwiches so that shouldn't be an issue. My weakness is a coffee so I'm going to restrict myself to 5 paid for coffees a week but hope to drink less.

    Wish me luck!

i used to be really good, but i became lazy after the summer and just spent up to £5 a day on the local takeaways as warming up/preparing during lunch hour is time wasting.

i really miss those no spend weeks.

I'm a teacher and get a free lunch on Thursdays for doing canteen duty so its only 4 days a week that I need to think about. I start well every week and then get a bit lazy by Weds and definitely run out of steam by Fridays :o.

I probably only spend about £4-5 a week on school dinners and snacks but I could do without that extra spend when there's always food in the house that I could take with me.

There's 19 working days in Jan for me (start back on the 7th), so almost 4 weeks. I'll go for a saving of £20 please.

WelshWoofer Another teacher here, what worked in a previous school was a group of 4 of us had a lunch club. One person bought in enough for the other 3. So you only had to think about one meal but make enough for 4 people. Friday was our 'day off' We did it as we were all trying to lose weight but could work as a moneysaver too. Exciting too as you never know what you're going to get. Have suggested it in our staffroom but sadly my days are all over the place so can't join in.

we all tend to eat in our workroom rather than go to the main staff room. Sadly our fridge and microwave probably wouldn't support this. We also have the problem of split lunches for KS3&4.

On special occasions we club together and all bring something for a buffet, but I think part of the reason why it is so successful is because it is a occasional thing IYSWIM.

Hey hotspur-pam, welcome :j you can do this whatever way suits you. I will certainly put you down for £15 per week :)

Hi and thanks for starting this thread:).

Well today was a spend day. I was running late this morning for work so didn't have a packed lunch prepared. There's no work tomorrow so I can prepare lunch for the rest of the week.

Thanks to those who contribute recipe ideas. They look right tastey and I can't wait to try out a few :D. Please keep them coming!

    Evening everyone

I made my pasta sauce a little earlier. I thought I could probably get 4 portions out of it but as it's packed out with mushrooms and I added some extra pasta I think it will do 6! I didn't think it through because now I now have a problem .......... I don't have enough containers  . If I can't freeze some of this individually I shall be having the same lunch for a whole week ........

If I go out tomorrow and buy some containers, I will already have started off my January NSD challenge with a spending day!

On the upside, both the pasta & mushroom risotto lunches (9 days) have probably cost £6.

Hi Hotspur_pam, it's not January until tomorrow so today won't count :rotfl:

Good luck to everyone starting this challenge tomorrow and Happy New Year.

    CW

    EDIT

Florida2013, good luck with the savings there. I thought I was spending a lot when I spent a fiver!
    NSD Challenge 2015: Jan 20 / 20 (2 x 5 in-a-row) / Feb 5 / 12 (4 in-a-row) :D

    Morning Peoples.

I had a shopping delivered yesterday which contained some ingredients for my lunches. I am allowing myself a budget of £17 for ingredients and have now spent £4.97 of it leaving me with £12.03 for the rest of the month.

I will get bread and as I like the really thickly sliced stuff and you can get 6 sandwiches out of the one loaf so that will cost me another £2.80 over January.

I'm back in work on Thursday and it's looking like I will take cheese and pickle for the two days.

I did have a quick look on the net to find a carrot salad recipe and found this which sounds lovely :

    Ingredients

    carrot-salad-1.jpg?ea6e46
    • 3-4 cups freshly grated carrots
    • 1/2-1 cup raisins
    • 1 large apple, cored and chopped
    • 1/4 to 1/3 cup mayonnaise
    Method

Combine all ingredients in a medium sized bowl.

So does anyone have anything they would like to share today?

Wishing everyone all the best for 2013.

  • My lunch recipes generally consist of something between two slices of bread so I'm looking forward to try out everyone else's.

Need to pop to the shop to pick up lunch for the next week. I'll see what takes my fancy but I must remember to get some drinks - multipacks are sooo much cheaper!
