Well, I'm on track for £500 a month. Not particularly good considering income of £1500.

Hi guys, I'm finally on board this year :D

Car bought in cash, an ok emergency buffer saved so now it's time to grow up and save for a house. I only have £400 emergency saved but I'm going to add to it every month. This account will also be for Xmas and holiday so need roughly £1500 in there a year. (I buy a lot of Xmas presents with vouchers earned throughout the year)

Going to sit down later and work out my possible savings for January, I'm celebrating NYE in London and have 4 significant birthdays in jan so the total won't be as great as I would like. Feb will be much better as I also have a booking for foreign students, 10 days x 3 students @ 11.75 pppn= 352 :D saying that, I also have 3 significant birthdays that month too!

Look forward to joining in sooooooon :D

I have managed to save 145K. Since I record my finances in MS Money I can see that at the end of last year I had saved 102K. So quite pleased to have saved 43K this year!

Christ. I don't even earn half that.
  • Hi everyone.

I thought I would try to start saving too and was about to start a thread similar to this then I found yours.

I currently have £122 in my savings account (which is actually a second current account - I need to fix this) and £95 I plan to pay in.

I have also sold some items on Amazon tonight which brings my total so far to £271.59.

Hello Lawstudent I also am new to this savings lark and for the past 3 months have saved like never before, the greatest tip i got off this forum was to make sure I 'pay myself' first and budget the rest of the month and this system has worked for me once the savings are topped up monthly I just forget about it and stick to my budget, I make sure that myself and DH have enough pocket money so we don't feel like we are skint and it seems to work well so far so good.
I look forward to seeing how your savings goal works out over the next few months.

Just read your post £500 per month is EXCELLENT!!!! of course it all depends on your outgoings and do you have any debts but if thats £500 clear savings per month then thats £6000 per year!!!!!!!!!! :T

    Thanks for your encouragement!

I have made some real progress today by opening a Barclays Monthly Savings account paying 3.2% in months when no withdrawals are made. I have transferred £250 into this and I am going to aim to pay in another £100 every month or more if I am able to.

I have found that I am able to use my Tesco vouchers to pay for a service and MOT on my car so I am going to put the money I save by doing this into the account when I have the work done.
