Padstow - I made a great curry yesterday and finished it off today. Chicken, carrot, cauliflower, onion, garlic, tomatoes (tin), celery and courgettes with curry spices. It really is very nice and my family enjoyed it as well, with some rice. There is also this recipe for butter chicken from mazzers on the first page

I admit that some carbs are too high but there is a lot that can be adapted to suit. What are your favourite meals, if you don't cut carbs?
I was never high on carbs SHEILA, it's the lack of quality to match my budget that's getting to me.
I don't know why I didn't think of home made curry, I was even longing for a takeaway earlier. Thankyou for that. I will make it tomorrow.
Had avocado, prawns and spicy sauce, relieved to have eaten something.
When abroad once, my ex had the most delicious almond sauce with his chicken. I asked for it on my Hake and they almost refused, but it was divine. Ground almonds and cream, will google a recipe as that sounds like it would separate.

Mmn a big pot of creamy, tomatoey curry and add whatever I have. Thankyou SHEILA.

Chicken passanda or korma have ground almonds and cream / yogurt. I really love curry and you can throw in any leftover veg. If I am short of chicken I add a boiled egg or cashew nuts for protein.

Veg are really good prices in AldI or Lidl but not organic. I spoke to my GP and she suggested that I tried to pay extra for soft fruits etc and get organic but to wash and peel swede, carrots etc as they don't absorb pesticides as much.

I hope that you enjoy your curry tomorrow :)

The recipe I use for butter chicken only uses yoghurt, tomatoes, butter, cream and spices so it isn't incredibly high in carbs. I serve it with cauliflower coconut rice and it goes down well with all but the vegetarians - it might not be authentic but it is popular. I haven't worked out the actual carb count but I'm sure it's not horrendously high. It might take a little adaptation as it's a designed for a thermomix but the original is here and I just leave out the sugar. I'll try to put it into normal speak...

    Spices (need to be ground):
    1 tbsp of Black Pepper
    1 tbsp of Coriander seeds
    1 tbsp of Cumin seeds
    1/2 tsp of Nutmeg
    1/4 tsp of powdered clove
Seeds from 1 Berry of Black Cardamom Seeds from 5 Berries of Green Cardamom

    Meat + marinade:
    500 gr Diced Chicken Breast
250 gr full fat Yogurt (I use the lidl greek stuff)
    Salt according to taste
    1 Saffron sachet
    Salt according to taste

    Sauce:
    400 gr Tomato
    80 gr Cream
    50 gr Butter
2 Table spoons of Garam Masala
    Salt to taste

    Instructions:
Grind until all ingredients turn into a powder (makes a pot of approximately 25 gr)

    Marinade the chicken overnight.

    Preheat oven to 220°F

Start sauce - this needs to cook for some time as the aim is to reduce the volume and thicken it

Place chicken on roasting tray in hot oven - about 15 minutes at 220

Add the diced chicken, spices and salt (if needed) to the sauce.

Continue to cook for another 20 minutes

In total it cooks for 50 minutes but the thermomix is constantly stirring, so it might be worth putting the chicken/sauce in a dish in your already hot oven for the last part if you don't want to be stood at the stove.

Hi y'all.. my Wimbledon towel arrived this morning :) and so did the Abel & Cole delivery. The cook book has plenty of LC recipes. No subs, all looks great so very pleased.

Butter chicken recipe sounds great daska but is that really 30g of sugar ???

    Padstow.. toast:eek: potatoes

NO low carb diet plan advocates a dish with 30g of sugar or toast or potatoes or rice cakes for that matter.

For people who are really low carbing, this thread is not a support thread any more.

It's a support thread for people who want to lose weight but still eat the maximum amount of carbs they can get away with OR who eat lower carb but do so still maintaining the pizza, muffins etc.

    :(

Oops, sorry, that's cos I took the list from the original, I don't add that, it's plenty sweet enough as it stands - I'll edit it to remove :o If you read above you'd see that I stated that I leave it out.

I've just totted it up as follows

    spices 5
    chicken 0
    butter 0
cream 3 (assuming you use double/heavy)
    tomato 15
yogurt 7.5 (if you use Fage)

So a total of 30g making 7.5g per serving - not bad for a blow-out.

Ta for the recipe Daska and also the cauli pizza thread, I haven't made one of those for ages so will give it another go.

It must be curry week! For anyone looking for a cheap filling low carb/clean eating dish I made veg curry last night.

Fry onion & garlic, add whatever chopped veg you have (I used a leek, 2 courgettes and green beans) tsp each garam masala, coriander, cumin, paprika, tumeric & chilli flakes depending how hot you like it. Tin of toms and cook it all down for half an hour, add some water if it's looking dry.

Tastes gorgeous and was a cheap way to use up veg. Could add some cooked chicken in there if you wanted, just make sure it's piping hot.

I do clean eating/low carb and try to do it as cheaply as possible. Aldi smoked mackeral fillets are good, also their frozen fish. I buy a whole chicken and get 2 or 3 meals for me & Mr Avstar out of it.

I do eat oats (not strictly low carb but are clean eating) and make my own oat & nut muesli, recipe on my blog x

    Hi all,

Is there any vegetarian/pescatarian (sorry for horrible word!) low carber here? I have been posting in the Pig2Twig forum which is ok, very friendly, but wanted to find out more about doing LC with a more MSE spin.

I have lost more than 2 st since starting in Febrauary 2011 but keep going back and forth a bit, so could use a bit of support. Thank you.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I think you may be being a little harsh there Edwardia. You may not agree with lc alternatives to pizza base or muffins but many do and there are low carb alternatives out there.

Anyone eating toast - unless it's lc bread - or potatoes may need telling quite what low carbing is about and pointing in the direction of a good book.

I still find this thread supportive and I am and have been a low carber for several years now.

Oats are not low carb at all.

I hope all you reading this realise that fact and do not let the fact that some people eat them fool you into thinking oat's are low carb. They are not.

Edwardia had a point there, and so I too will be pointing out ideas which do not belong here.

Wouldn't want anybody to get the wrong idea :D

    Hi peeps :)

Think we need to get back to basics, show each other that we are still low carbing. Any questions about lc eating? Ask.

Newbies - best to get a good book with the basics of low carbing and read it.

My lovely food for today :D

B - 100ml FF Goats milk, 30g coconut oil, turmeric and black pepper shake, 100g hm sauerkraut (3/100g carbs)
L - beef steak cooked in oxo cube with onion, spinach.
Eve - Flax bread with cheese and 50g red pepper kimchi (6.5/100g carbs)

No more and likely less than 12g carb on the day. :j

Worth noting that I have had veg at every meal, each time different. Veg is very important as it has valuable nutrients in it :). It is important to vary your veg to get the best nutrition. That said I may well have these 3 veg in the above order every day this week :) This does not worry me as each portion is very different in what it has to offer me. And a bit of each every day will be nice.

What's everyone else had / having today?
