Well! Potential sinners not allowed in the thread of St Edwardia then!
No carb from any root veg apart from the carrots in occasional coleslaw has passed my lips in over 5 weeks, add to say I've not touched a flour/sugar product or potato in that time either.

You're doing fine ordering Able and Cole boxes. I have been dropped from a great height from thousands per month to £146 pw and that's before paying the bills on a 5,000 sq ft home. I haven't had heating or hot water since January. The electric bills are horrendous due to constanly boiling kettles to keep myself and the house clean.

I was looking forward to SHEILAS's suggestion of a curry. Tough, as the car had to be taxed at £135 for 6 months, add on cheap dog food, a tenner in petrol, plus what I can squeeze from the lawn mower. The nearest bus is two miles away down unlit lanes, so car's a must. That's my income gone until next Monday when no doubt it will be swallowed up again. No money for food.

I did indeed shop for some bread and butter this morning, but my local corner shop, 3 miles away, Co-op was charging £1.80 for the cheapest butter. I put both bread and butter back. No point in two Lincs spuds either, as no butter to put on them. Total food today? Ramekin of seeds.

I never thought it could happen to me, but Edwardia, life turns on a sixpence and it could happen to any one of us. Be grateful, not smug.

    Hi hunni

I will not join in on a personal level but I do agree that we are not all on a monetary level here. I too find low carbing more expensive, can't afford to give away clothes and regret that really cheap food is difficult to come by on a low carb diet.

I 80% of the time buy meat on whoops. I have to. I often decide what to cook for the following week by seeing what is oldest in the freezer :rotfl: I like to keep it full as, like you say, you do not know what is around the corner.

    Please keep on coming here.

I hope things get better for you soon.

Padstow, you can't survive on seeds. You might be able to get some help from one of the foodbanks while you get yourself back on your feet. Here's a map of the Trussel ones. If they don't have one near you they might be able to point you in the right direction.

    Hi all,

Is there any vegetarian/pescatarian (sorry for horrible word!) low carber here? I have been posting in the Pig2Twig forum which is ok, very friendly, but wanted to find out more about doing LC with a more MSE spin.

I have lost more than 2 st since starting in Febrauary 2011 but keep going back and forth a bit, so could use a bit of support. Thank you.
Hi Caterina, I haven't eaten meat since I had a choice, no eggs either. Some fish but I can easily be turned off. Then it becomes difficult as it's cheese and I'm sure cheese stalls me.
One of my favourite salads is Stilton, pear and walnut with walnut oil dressing but I don't lose on it, whereas I do with Puy lentil salad.
I mix the lentils with finely chopped onion, rub of garlic and red pepper and grainy mustard dressing.

Low carbing is difficult for us as we can't fill up on fatty meat and loads of fish.

I lost a stone on the above, plus salmon fried in Barts Cajun spice to disguise the taste.

It's so dificult for you and me to the get the protein needed.

Just to nail my colours to the mast - I consider I eat "low carb" but I don't weigh my food so I don't really know the total carb content of any of my meals. I try to keep all ingredients in single digits per 100g (although for tiny amounts like cocoa I allow a bit more).

I use sweeteners in tea and coffee - have done for years, long before lc-ing; and I drink the occasional diet cola, mixed with a shot of well-chilled vodka :D

I've tried a few low carb baking recipes - flax crackers, flax bread and just today, cauliflower pizza base (quite nice), but the sweet stuff I've tried to make is basically a waste of ingredients. I don't even particularly like sweet stuff either, just wanted to see if I could make a decent low carb cake - I can't :o

I haven't eaten any grains, spuds or sugar for nearly a year now and I've lost a total of 6 inches off my waist and 6 inches off my hips. That'll do for me :)

I'm ashamed to say I've tried the bakewell tart three times :o The first two attempts were very runny and the third one (I improvised and added a spoonful of whey concentrate to try and thicken it up) I'm still using as a frisbee :rotfl:

    Can I just say

    I like it here.

It may help if folk put stuff in their sig about vegetarianism, med vs low carb - with some detail, IF THEY ACTUALLY WANT REAL HELP WITH THEIR DIET.

If they just want to drop in, in a low carb stylee, nice.

Do remember that if you aren't really low carbing at some point and you list your foods which include high carbs - qualify them. Things can be confusing for folk who are expecting this to be a low carb forum. And when you don't it looks like you don't know what you are saying/doing.

But the most important thing to remember is that I am your friend. I have no side and have been known to disappear and reappear for no reason whatsoever. One thing guaranteed, it's never been to take up carbs again :)
