have been advised by someone to get an enclosure for my HDD to convert it into a portable HDD the should be able to access the data through the net book so going out to buy one, much cheeper than the £100 fine for late return.
    Hope this works :)

    aaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having a nightmare, barely slept last night. Had been trying to sort out DHs laptop so I could do my tax return, all the codes are stored on it because it's old and modem broke in it so wouldn't have been able to go online thus the reason for the netbook ;)
It won't work at all, 2 lights go on but not the screen :( no sound from the fan going on or anything. I'll have to find some where to take it to and because of what's on it would want to stay with it.

I've got until midnight tomorrow night to get my return done before I get charges, not happy with myself because I could have done it when doing DHs final return back in June but I didn't and now so anrgy with myself
This happened to me the last year I was self employed and on the deadline, i took mine to pc world as the screen wouldnt come on and it was the catch that closes the laptop, then the screen goes off was broke so my laptop always thought it was shut. The guy fixed it....didnt charge me as he saw what a state I was in on the 31st Jan lol

May help but Im no techie so thought Id share

ope you get it sorted. oh and mine went in a bit late but no charge, my guess is they give a deadline then have a small lee way as with everything else in life

Good morning everyone :), playing catch up as usual.

Bargainhuntergill - No leeway I'm afraid, I'm guessing you may have been lucky and the deadline was extended by HMRC for an error on their part or your return was nil or less than £100.

Spiralingdown - I don't know your circumstances and I'm afraid I know nothing about computers, but if you tax return is going to be nil then you will not get charged a penalty. If it is late, then a penalty may be added to your statement of account, but will be reduced to nil when the return is submitted (if it is nil).
Also if the return is DH's then under the circumstances (I think you said he had sadly passed away?) then I would contact the helpline asap and explain the situation. They are normally very helpful under these circumstances.
And a useful tip perhaps for any of you. If you need to ring any of HMRC's helplines that are not free or you only have access to a mobile, so very expensive. Then you should be able to make the call from your local Job Office, CAB or HMRC contact centre. They all have phones on the wall, in the waiting rooms for this kind of thing.
    hth :)

If you have another computer about and it's not ancient then it's likely that the HDD from the laptop will fit in it. Just disconnect the hard drive from the computer and attach the one from the laptop and it will boot up like it's your laptop :)

    Aaaahhhhh they look so cute:)

Totally O/T now, but just back from the doctors, booked in for steroid next week for my elbow but it's been getting me down and I can't sleep with the pain so the doctor has prescribed one 25mg amitriptyline tablet everynight to see if it will get me through the night. We had a bit of a "discussion" about them because I always thought they were anti depressants and I'm not depressed, but he said no in low doses they are good as a muscle relaxant and should help me sleep.Has anyone else ever used then for this, I hate taking tablets:(

    Morning all, still catching up....

Nikki, I was prescribed these for my migraines a few years back, for the same reasons others have given. I wasn't really on them long enough to judge the effectiveness as I had to come off them due to an emergency hospital admission. Not a good idea to come off them abruptly as I had the mother of all migraines :(

Its freezing today but weirdly there wasnt any frost this morning! Anyway kept myself warm by using my sons scooter to ride home from school, got a few strange looks, but it was fun!

apparently the lack of frost is because it is so dry there is no moisture in the air to form frost. ( Not being clever they just said on the tv )

I love this weather at the moment as the cold is a dry cold rather than our normal "wet" cold if that makes any sense.

Caz if it was Spr1ngh1ll, according to a CS there on Monday someone came in on Sunday and tried to buy them all!!!
Whoever it was that served them realised that they were going through at the higher price so reduced them and the customer 'lost' their wallet when the total came through.
Only found out because I asked if the had any of the £15, knowing they didn't, then saying about the £35/£70 ones going up in price and wishing I got one Friday when I was in because they were cheap then.
Some greedy lurkers out there, in a way glad they got caught out but just a pity someone couldn't have got even 1 of them free.

T'was the other store. Even if they'd had them with intact stickers I can't risk it as my cards are marked there. At a guess I'd say the lurker from the big store lurkered the small store. Oh and what CS told you? Was it the nice young chap with glasses?

Hopefully whoever tried it on in $pr1ngh1ll will be on their wanted list. I'm on it for 'coupon abuse' aka the double jelly/custard discount that the CO manager accused me of using a coupon very loudly in front of other staff and customers (they read the screen wrong and saw a discount as a coupon). They also won't take any coupons bar green tick ones now. I've never abused coupons so I'll just take them elsewhere.

Not strictly true. All the device drivers for the new laptop will be missing and the only way around it would be to do a repair install. It's far easier if you know what you're doing to set the spare disk as a slave but you need to be reasonably techie as it requires you to change the jumper settings and know how to connect it to the mobo.
