  • Interesting that at the time of your post Brent was at 102 ish, but by close of business was back up to 106.

Any stocks of oil sold off now will have to be replaced in the future, so you are robbing Peter to pay Paul.

And if an OPEC member like say Iran, takes offence at our 'market manipulation', they could easily withhold far more oil from the market than we are putting in.

Unfortunately, (as I need to buy a bit myself) it looks like Brent has tested the low 100's support, and failed to fall through, so can't see it going much lower in the short term.....

Today we were quoted 1900 litres at 52.91 p/l + vat
Apparently a few days ago it was slightly less, but is steadily increasing again. The trend does seem to be following the curve in the graph, but as we have said, other events can also affect it.
Now seems a good time to buy.
    What do others think?

You'd be better off looking at this chart. Shows the price you really pay.

I wouldn't really like to advise someone when to buy, if I get it wrong I would feel bad, but on a gut instinct, I would wait a while if I needed it myself, keeping a sharp eye on the price.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • I bought 500 litres for the mower/tractor on Thursday.

    Paid 0.835 Euro/litre which is 61p/litre + VAT.

This is the cheapest the price has been for a long while, and it is now moving back up.

I don't think there's any problem offering one's advice or opinions on when to buy. Noone is offering any guarantees or calling it a dead cert.

I think now is a good time to buy, especially if you are a bit low. Could it get cheaper? Of course, but I tend to think not.

Watch out for any weakness in the £, as this will also push prices up, (oil being traded in $).

I hedged my bets: half a tank.

  • We ran out end of March after paying a LOT last year due to the cold snap I point blank refused to be ripped off for any more!

I am not planning on filling our 1000 litre tank until October but I would not leave it any later than that, same again this year once the 1000 litres has gone then it has gone there will not be any more coming my way that is for sure!

It is about time the government stepped in now and did something about these greedy oil companies, this is heating oil !!!!!! it is far from a luxury item!

Interestingly GB Oils have just been fined £51k for what I would call cheating customer and blatantly as well!

Many thanks, UnderPressure, for this link.

    Of particular interest is this:
GB Oils, which trades under at least 44 different trading names including OJ Williams, is a division of the massive conglomerate, the DCC group.
DCC also owns Flogas, one of the LPG suppliers many users have had problems with so I've posted a link in the 'Bulk LPG ..' thread.

    Here's another quote:
Many of the customers who complained were charged approximately 15p/litre more than they had been quoted or than they had expected to pay and said that if they had known the actual price that would be charged they would not have bought the oil from G B Oil and would have shopped around with competitors selling the same product for much lower prices at that time.
Flogas had a programme devoted to them in the "Don't Get Done, Get Dom" series last year - and it was repeated this year.

AND here is a post by ukoilman last January with a list of DCC companies (please add your thanks to his really useful post!).

  • We are looking for 1000-1200 litres domestic kero 28 in the South Bristol area. Any ideas where to get the best current price. have seen BJ's offering but I find in practice you can often beat that, but not sure who at present is the hungriest for business?

Boilerjuice is rarely (indeed over the last 2 years never) the cheapest.

You cannot beat shopping around - I use boiler juice as a quick daily check on price trends. When it seems to be dropping and I want to buy, I check other online companies and phone local suppliers. They will almost always price match or beat whatever you find on line.

Watch out for credit card surcharges these days, and make sure the price you're quoted is fixed (ie if they deliver 3 days later do you pay the price quoted or the price 3 days later!).

Local group-buying schemes can, but don't always, get you a further discount. Again - shop around.
