;43549736]I know that was addressed to Jimmy but I have to say I agree with him. My opinion is from having lived and worked there for a year and having bought and managed properties in London and Herts.

A few of the reasons why I don't like it are:
The locals who seem bereft of manners.
Transport being a nightmare.
Dealing with local companies and organisations seems to take twice as long.
Standards just seem so much lower, especially hygiene.
and lots of little things like people seeming to go out of their way to bash into each other as they walk along. Only seen this in Liverpool outside the South.
Much more widespread drug use.
Supposedly nice places which have a completely inadequate road system and parking which makes being there for any length of time frustrating.
I'm not sure where in Herts you went but London is not the South.

Last time I looked at a map I was convinced London was in the South. Maybe if I had been 'educated' in the South I would know that London was not in the South.

If you mean that it is not representative of the South, I disagree. The same attitude can be found in other places I have spent significant time in ie Reading (let me guess that's in Wales right?), St Albans (Scotland?), etc. In London it's more apparent simply because there are more of them to endure.

To be fair though it is good to work in the South as there is generally less pressure and more money provided you don't have the costs of living there, its good to let property and there seems to be a phase shift in the market between North and South so owning in both helps smooth the curves.

I don’t want to get into a north v south argument because I think it is silly. I’m sure there are places in the north that are just as bad as Reading maybe not London but then London is unique in many ways and although I live 30 miles away I do not enjoy going there. Traffic can be bad and transport systems overcrowded but that is because more of the population lives there. But standards being lower is ridiculous and there are enough bad manner people in the north. I have only lived in the South but have spent plenty of time mixing with people from all over the country through my hobbies and can honestly say that I have meet nice and not so nice people from all areas.
• I'm telling you, it was this big!

I dont give a fig if you believe me or not,but we`re the ones who will be sitting nice and smug in our NEW home this time next week barring any last minute hitches !
• just one more example of the panic engulfing sellers, while we were looking at properties recently we arranged a viewing one weekend for the following weekend, mid week the agent phoned to say the seller had dropped the price by 15%,even though they knew we were viewing a few days later and would effectively be cash buyers !

I can believe it woodbine, i live in the north west and have been seeing some good reductions and will be putting my lowball offers in at some point next year. it looks like my patience will finally pay off at some point.

I think most people could buy an £80k house and be
mortgage free. It's whether you're prepared to live in a small house in a not-so-nice area.

It great living up north, cheaper houses and less southerners, what is there not to like?

The weather, the massive numbers of deprived towns and cities, the accents.... I'm sure there are many more.

I'll give you the bad weather and deprivation but our accents are fantastic.
