How about the Howard Johnson in Long Island? It's further away, but is only a couple of stops in the subway. Expedia have a room for £531
Ok, I've found you a bargain
There is a brand new microtel (mini hotel, the rooms are small, but it's brand new, and kinda nice!), opening in Brooklyn on the 15th April, so just in time for your stay.
Bookit.com have king rooms available for only $108 per night, and you get a free metrocard for each day you stay, saving you $29 each. (woohoo!)
So, at $915.72, that works out to be £590 for 7 nights (i've got that right yes?) including all taxes, and your transportation for the week. That free transportation is worth £37.40...

there are loads of small steps to get up to crown so make sure you have a decent brekkie.
It's just that there's a 9am ticket option but the first ferry isn't until half 9 so I don't see how you could get to S o L by 9 :???
Back in my box, question answered:

Another daft question from me!!
Is La Guardia much closer into NYC than Newark or JFK.
On my internal flights I have a choice between the 3, at pretty much the same price. I know there is nothing really in it between Newark and JFK bit not sure about La Guardia...please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

Newark is the most expensive to get to and from, and if you're doing internal flights to get to New York, I'd look at either JFK or LGA.
If you're going to get a car or taxi from the airport, then LGA wins, as it is the closest to Manhattan. If you're going to do public transport, then JFK will win out, as it has the AirTrain.0 -

Actually, no, I don't own one at all..
Bear in mind with that Brooklyn hotel, is its BRAND NEW, is it going to open on time? Hopefully. Also, the rooms are small, but perfectly formed. This will encourage you to get out and about, and if you want, I can give you a good list of bars all within walking distance from that hotel too. I even know one that does free popcorn while you're drinking!

OK, time for a run down of the bargain hotels that are available for upcoming stays. So, if you've booked a rate that is cancellable, it might be worth changing!!

And also, the one I've mentioned already, the new Microtel in Brooklyn (Gowanus/Park Slope area), is from $129 from April - May as their opening offer.
More next week, or as they crop up!

If anyone is interested in that brand new hotel M4RKM mentioned, I found the website of the actual hotel rather than the Bookit.com website

Never seen these before but noticed when having a browse around tonight that bookit.com has a number of 'mystery hotels' on offer for New York at the moment for really reasonable looking prices:
http://bookit.com/us/new-york/new-york-city/?promoId=5531954&adid=Tp_4324
Has anyone ever tried these? I'm guessing there's no handy database set up like there is for Hotwire etc identifying what they might be?
