  • Morning all,

    I gave up on here last night as the site was so slow and kept crashing.
    I watched a film with DH instead - it was called City of god, and it was a Brazillian crime/gangster film. I don't normally watch subtitled films (probably because I am usually on the laptop at the same time!) but this was rather good.

    Hope you are all well and have a lucky day.

    Well, I am off to catch up on what I missed yesterday...

    I have reconsidered my leaving of MSE and decided to stay however I have also decided to take a bit of a back seat approach on MSE for a while as things are a bit traumatic at the present time for me to say the least, and my head and emotions are all over the place, hence my recent emotional outburst where bridges where burned and I spat the dummy out of my proverbial pram :p:o:o
    my sincere apologies to Glad who bore the full brunt of my emotional outburst and took it with great dignity and composure I have the utmost respect for her and I really appreciate the hands on approach that she is taking in making the boards better for everyone to tread
    At the risk of being highly controversial again!! :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    I thought that I would share and post on here that a new third party analytic company has appeared on the MSE scene namely Chartbeat.com see security reports here http://noscript.net/about/chartbeat.com;chartbeat.com
    chartbeat is a real-time analytic s service, which provides an interface for viewing what users on your site are doing right now, as well as providing historical context. The entire service is built on top of API's which you can use to access and re-purpose the data we collect
    this service is somewhat similar to Google Analytic's in that it collates and collects data gleaned from MSE, MSE now has two analytic third party javascripts which are collating and collecting data which is then sent to the third party sites

    this I don,t really mind but what I do mind is that this information is then made publicly available on the world wide web

    I note also that Chartbeat was introduced at the end of September beginning of October shortly after it was implemented Spam/viral emails started and also site slow downs also started to materialise

    see: the MSE Wemasters thread which makes interesting reading look at the end of September and the beginning of October you will see Chartbeat mentioned and also reports of Spam and site slow downs
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=93053474

    Hands up everyone who thought that the viral emails and spam only started in November ;)

    see this interesting post Spam from MoneySavingExpert (dated 08/10/2010)
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2779452
    I've just received the spam email below, sent to an address I created uniquely for use with MoneySavingExpert (DELETED). Has anyone else received spam like this? If so, it seems like MSE has a security breach.
    mere coincidence or an overblown conspiracy theory I'll let you decide

    but what I do know is that MSE is now sharing far too much information with third party sites and is also linking vast areas of MSE with multiple social networking sites who have there own MAJOR security concerns and whose security has also been breached multiple times with users data being stolen

    and when a breach in security happens MSE user's are initially kept in the dark

    also when new third party software is introduced that collates and collects information MSE are not upfront about it

    take a look at MSE's privacy policy you will see no mention of Google Analytic's or Chartbeat.com
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/privacy-policy

    user's should also take note the disclaimer in MSE's security policy
    5. Security Policy
    We use reasonable precautions to keep the information disclosed to us secure. However, we cannot guarantee the security of the information that you disclose to us. You accept the inherent risks of providing information and dealing on-line and will not hold us responsible for any breach of security unless this is due to our negligence or willful default.
    the more links in a chain the more weaker the chain becomes and the more information is shared the more likely there will be future security breaches and the more MSE will become a MAJOR privacy concern

    P:S if you would like to block Google Analytics and Chartbeat and you use Firefox install the Add on Adblock Plus and add the following Javascript blocking filters to your Ad Blocking Rules

    ||google-analytics.com^
    ||static.chartbeat.com/js/*

    Best of Luck :)
