To confuse matters further.............
This relates to RBS but may also apply to Nat West. Bonus interest was meant to pay from the last day of the month following opening, in my case 7th October although my online application. The website now says from 15th rather than the last day so I called them to clarify. While they say 15th is correct they are adamant that the 15th is not in fact 15th November but 22nd November, i.e. one month and 15 days after opening.0 -
Post #12 in this thread also quotes it. In fact this whole thread itself could count as evidence : lots of timestamped discussions about all the confusion. Even if natwest don't accept it, if it goes as far as the FSA complaints they should take it into account. I'm sure Martin has backups and whatnot which would establish that all this stuff really was posted when it says, rather than all being an elaborate hoax to try to rip natwest off.0

How sad we all are. ...
There is also evidence that they were alerted to the incorrect evidence and chose to do nothing about it. See this post for example.
Was certainly wrong and uncorrected from at least 29/9 to 14/10 it seems.0 -
They wrote to me saying as I had ticked the box confirming I had read the terms and conditions, then they have no case to answer.
My recollection is that the T&C didn't actually make it particularly clear either. See post #105 in this thread. As I said in post #111 I never found any mention in the T&C that the bonus was not earned until the 15th of the following month.
That was for the printed T&C that came with the welcome pack. I don't recall what the online T&C said.0 -

Interestingly I reported it as a misleading advertisement to the FSA misleading advertisement helpline on 7 October. I've just called that helpline back and explained that as a result of it people are now widely reporting that they have lost out. They said that they would not use evidence from an internet forum and would take no action whatsoever as a result of my call.
Confirmation if we needed it that the FSA is a totally ineffective and discredited organisation that have continued to fail to protect consumers against organisations conning customers like Nat West.
That said I am sure that anyone making a complaint to the banking ombudsman with evidence from this thread would be successful with their complaint.I came, I saw, I melted0 -

I agree the only WRITTEN reference was the footnote in very small print on page 40 of a 66 page booklet with about 800 words to a page which says the bonus is applied on the end of the month after the account is opened, nothing about the 15th or when the bonus was accrued from rather than applied. Even Sherlock Holmes might have missed that.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
My account opened on 8th October, but I only became aware of the delayed bonus start date 2 wks later, after placing funds in the a/c.
I didn't realise a 'card reader' was needed to withdraw the funds, & so had to wait until 4th November for one to arrive to withdraw funds.
This has cost me a fair amount in lost interest.
I have complained to Natwest Care Team Manchester, & Natwest Customer Relations Unit. They are "unable to uphold my complaint".
I made the mistake of not keeping a copy of the original advert. They have sent me a copy, but it doesn't mention the bonus period as the "first 12 months", just "12 months". I am convinced they have altered it, but have no proof.....
I complained about the card reader, saying it should have automatically been sent, as I had specified I didn't have another NatWest a/c. They weren't interested....
Today, I have sent copies of everything I have relating to this a/c to the Financial Services Authority, Canary Wharf, London.
Tomorrow, I will be sending the same information to The Financial Ombudsman Service.
If any of you are able to do the same, I would be grateful!0 -
Here is a screen print from 7th October of the "includes a bonus of 1.85% Gross for the first 12 months" wording in the blue box at the top. Copy the image, print it out and include with your complaint. Nat West, Guilty m' lord. (edit: just to clarify this wasn't the only page where the information was wrong see rollinghome's post below, and posts earlier in this thread)I came, I saw, I melted0

Thanks very much 'Rollinghome' for your useful post re the NatWest E-saver account. I have been watching this 'thread' with great interest as I too have fallen foul of the interest rate wording and ambiguous statements and I need all the back-up that I can muster in my claim. I would very much appreciate receiving a copy of the NatWest Home page dated 13th October that you say you have. I am new to this forum system and not quite sure how to give you my details. What do you suggest?0

Snowman, thankyou very much for the above, I'm new to this Forum, and already it has cheered me up no end!
I'll send a copy of it back to NatWest to try & cause them some embarrasement, aswell as sending it on as an addition to the FSA, & to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
I'm determined to get NatWest to admit that this whole set up is totally unfair & underhanded, & to get the advertised FIRST 12 months worth of bonus interest, however long it takes!......0
