Still trying to organise my antenatal classes; is anyone else taking these??
As I am having to book it privately, the NCT have found that only one other couple in my area has booked! they have said that I can either join the other couple or have one-to-one classes, I'm not bothered either way really. Cannot believe there is only one other couple though!!!!0 -
I've never had any ante-natal classes
I think they might have helped with pain management though so labour wasn't a total shock!
I was going to look into it this time but as yet haven't got that far. Also there's a huge section in my notes about a birth plan? Never had one of those either, beyond 'Please get the baby out NOW before I go completely insane' and what's more when I was in labour no one has ever asked me about it! There was a birth plan sheet in my notes with the twins as I recall, but I had consultant led care and the doctor said you can't really plan a twin birth, what happens happens but you need lots of monitoring so no pool etc.
Am I meant to discuss this with MW (who I haven't seen since booking in!) fill it in myself, just ignore it or what?Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

kitkat - we are not doing them, mainly because DH wouldn't cope with it! lol. we will go to the 2 freebies that the hospital put on, well one just i will go to as it's women only about breastfeeding. Not bothering with the first one as it's meant to be before 20 weeks and the next we could go to is early august. I asked a friend who said its just stalls about how to use a car seat, get a smoke alarm etc!
Just had a yummy lunch of leftover cous cous with lemon and peas from last night with loads of lovely salad in. And healthy! Need to get dressed at some point and go to the shop for couple of bits to add to the dinner.
Also, just noticed that http://www.cleangreennappy.co.uk/ have a sale on. Looks like some good prices.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -

Thanks for your replies Delain and Rach.
I think this is what I want the classes for really; with the preparation for labour, at the moment I think I am in denial and just expect to wake up on my due date with a baby in my arms, lol :rotfl:I have been told the classes cover breathing techniques and relaxation which are 2 things I really struggle with!
I think you discuss your birth plan with your MW, my MW hasnt even mentioned one, all she has said is the end of this month she is doing a home visit and wishes to see my suitcase... I wasn't intending on a suitcase I just thought a bag would do!!! She is also going to check I am ready for the baby, I think she will be shocked as she told me all I need for the baby is a drawer, clothes and blankets but I have a cot bed and moses basket, lots of clothes and blankets, so she will probably moan about that!
Rach; My hospital doesn't offer any freebie classes at all, so I am totally clueless having never even held a baby, so I have no idea at all what to expect. The only thing I have ever looked after is my dog but I am sure that is totally different!!! I actually wouldn't have a clue about how to use a car seat/ how to fit it/ etc! All I have found is the ones we have looked at are so heavy and I cant imagine lifting them with a baby in them  maybe I need to get weight lifting!0 -
Kitkat you will be fine a lot of what you worry about comes naturally like how to hold baby. AS for having to much stuff its better to be over prepared than under. Birth plans shouldn't be set in stone anyway so just put what you think you will want and go with the flow when it happens :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

KitKat - I havent been to any classes, and to be honest i dont really feel like I've missed out on much. Any information I've wanted, I've been able to find online.
As for holding baby, head supported most important thing, whether its in your palm, crook of your arm etc
My madwife read through my birth plan, told me if the pool wasnt available at local hospital, i could go too birth centre about 25 miles away. But now given my recent behaviour LOL it doesnt look like they'd take me there so am hoping pool is available.
I didnt write anything exacting, just things i was looking to try out..... if its too exacting you build yourself up to having that EXACT thing happening and if for any reason it doesn't, well thats hardly going to amount to much relaxation.
Mine reads like
Would like to use tens in first stages, would like to birth in pool, if not available/suitable would like to part labour in water, be it bath or shower for relaxation. Prefer gas and air but if im struggling/look like im struggling would like staff to suggest further options (this is because i find it hard to ask for things sometimes). Craig husband is happy to be there for labour but doesnt want to be involved in actual birthing, cut the cord or come with me to theatre should i need a c section.
If i need c-section i would like this explained to Craig and my parents (either both or singularly dependant on whose there) and one of my parents to attend if possible. I want the baby cleaned and wrapped before he is given to me unless i have birthed in water, in which case im happy for him to be placed straight to me.
I'd like to try to breastfeed asap after birth and would ask that someone from staff is there to help me.
I prefer not to have injection to deliver placenta.
Happy for baby to have vit k injection but no other injections.
Prefer ventuose over forceps.
However in light of all preferences, whatever is needed to deliver baby safely is what i am happiest with.
Thats mostly the basics of itWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Thanks Xmas
I hope it does come to me!!! Just feel so clueless at the moment!
