I asked why i had to see an advisor. i said i don't want any other products and not being rude, but how difficult is it for me to fill the form in myself. apparently it is because you ahve to receive the advice about opening an ISA from someone qualified. !

    :T .............
  • I have to defend Barclays on this one. (And this comment only applies to this week only due to the tax year ending in 2/3 days)

Yes you can go and fill in a form but then someone will need to open the account, are people forgetting that ? So even if you fill in the form, if there is no adviser (account opener in this instance) then your ISA is going nowhere.
And I can see people answering "But surely it takes only 10 minutes", maybe but 10 minutes x number of people wanting ISA = maybe applications not being put through in time bring in mind they will also have the applications of people who booked appointments)

I went into my Barclays with my form filled in, spoke to a lovely lady at the desk who then went and took photocopies etc., filled in my info, and I was out of there in 10! I think it depends where you go (branch wise).

Barclays have a dedicated Savings department that deals with, and opens ISA's (how do you think they get processed when customers apply online)-they make you see an adviser to a)open the account there and then and b)to try and make you take another product as they take details of income, expenditure and the likes.

So to be honest, they could accept applications that customer fill out and them saying an specialist adviser has to do it is twaddle because if you do it online then there's no FSA complaint adviser on there is there.

All sounds a but complicated!
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!

Yes I know that but I'm talking this week, its wednesday today, it wouldnt get up to head office and opened by saturday, it's too late now. Internal post is like normal post, it can be late/never arrives.

Actually on the forms it says if you don't wish to see an advisor you can post to this address.... But obviously can't do that for new customers as they need to make sure you have an account and stuff.

The lady I had didn't try to sell me anything except their current account and I said 'well i have a student account with a £1000 free overdraft so I doubt you can beat that' and that was it hehe.

Accounts have to be applied for by Saturday not opened by Saturday, as other Posters have said Barclays like other big providers have a dedicated ISA office that open all the ISA(s).

Last year i did what Lokolo did this year, I sent him an application form so that he could do what I did last year, proof is in the pudding, Barclays like appointments to be made, they arent neccesary, like it says on Barclays Website, "Pop into a Branch" ;)

What makes you think that ? I didn't think anyone would be allowed to backdate any applications into a previous tax year. (Could be wrong)

I knew u would come back on it. id love to know what u actually do at Abbey. :rotfl:

I believe that you commented last week on a Barclays ISA thread where someone had a 2007/08 ISA application incorrectly opened for tax year 2006/07, these mistakes occurred because barclays were opening 2006/07 ISA applications after the end of that tax year and backdating them.

I think the only point of getting you in there is to get more business from you. If they ask me about my mortgage, income etc i will be telling them to mind their own business, in a polite manner of course!

Who's that who works for Abbey? - boo hiss!! I am furious with Abbey at the moment. I am going to Barclays because of them. I opened an ISA online. i rang them to ask what i should do about the deposit and they said to go into the branch with the ref no given. I made 20 mile round trip in strong winds and rain (west coast of Scotland) only to be greeted by the type that sucks air in between their teeth and shaking their head before they tell you what's going on. I needed an account number apparently. ref no was no good. they wouldn't even ring the call centre for me - told me to do it! Disgusting. And i was struggling with my 3 year old son trying to stop him running out the door. They weren't making things any easier for me. Yet on their website it says to take your deposit to the branch. The last time i tried to open an ISA with them it was a disaster. Nothing has changed. I will be demanding reimbursement of travel costs and for wasting my time plus rudeness of staff. Also, the call centre wouldn't let me speak to a manager when i wanted to complain. None available. More like don't want to talk to customers. Shambles.
