I get £32.30 one way in total for Heworth(Newcastle and Auchinleck(Kilmarnock) travelling on a Saturday without splitting the route if you go via Carlisle & Glasgow.

Going via Edinburgh doesn't save anything and going direct to Auchinleck from Carlisle puts the price up to £94, though it's an hour quicker

Well a GNER "Standard Advance 4" doesnt look bad value at all at £32.30 single for all of you from Newcastle - Auchinleck, so £64.60 rtn.

Had to book a short notice single from London to Manchester for a Saturday morning in a couple of weeks time.

Trainline was giving £49.50 as the cheapest fare.

But, with a split at Stoke, managed to get:
    London - Stoke: £12.50
    Stoke - Mcr: £9.40

    Total: £23.90
    Saving: £25.60

Please not all prices quoted include Rail Card Discounts at 33.4%

I normally bought Saver Returns from sheffield or doncaster to newcastle (Valid all day/no off peak restrictions) but as I was going after 10 I was expecting a CDR option... was there one?.. nope!

After digging around the net for a bit I found this combination (Used with a SY Weekly Pass)

0954 Sheffield to Doncaster (Inclusive on pass)
    Doncaster to York £6.40 CDR
    York to Darlington £9.45 CDR
    Darlington to Newcastle £5.30 CDR

    TOTAL - £21.15

    Saver Return £33.20
    SAVED - £12.50

All the tickets were cheap day returns and I stayed on the same train that I got on at sheffield and saved myself over a tenner!

Anyone know an option for travel before 10 that is cheaper than £33.20 and that is not an advance ticket as I dont have much notice at times. (Possibly Via Leeds)

    Thanks

    Kev

anyone know how to split a Liverpool to London journey?
  • Travelling one-way peak-time from Brighton to London Bridge train station:

Buy a ticket from Brighton to Gatwick (ask for a "First Capital Connect only" ticket): cost £7.40

Buy another ticket from Gatwick to London Bridge (ask for "First Capital Connect only"): cost £9

    Total cost: £16.40
    Direct cost: £19.30
    Saving: £2.90

Not the biggest saving, but better than nothing!! You could probably buy a return for similar savings.
