To add the extra 300g flour would increase the cost to 31.53p for the flour and £1.63 for the whole batch (not counting energy costs).

    :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

I think that has to be a world record for speed of a recipe challenge!

it looks like they might end up being about 1.2 ish p a biscuit! that's amazing!

    I'm so grateful :)

Shall we write out a version including your suggested tweaks and your 2nd cooking method as that seemed to work a lot better for you, but for a 1/3rd sized batch or even a quarter? so our testers don't have too many to test?

*Feels somewhat guilty that I have inflicted over 100 biscuits on the household spend of Kaz and family...:o:D*

Whenever you tell me to dear lady! Tomorrow would be fine :)

So, onion marmalade, am on it!

righty ho :) if you did buy the pork mince, I'd love to see if half the pack (250g) would do burgers for a family of 4 (or more is a bonus!) for 2 meals ie 8 servings(eek) you are also allowed breadcrumbs, 1 egg if needed, seasonings as stated above, 320g of apple, 320g of onion, but you may not want all of that, it's lots more than Delia :) Use buttery spread if you like for butter, but oil is more frugal if you think the recipe can cope :)

I'm aware this is a big stretch since it's only 60% the meat content of delia :o and so am also giving you 150g of cooking bacon, since this will deliver more taste 'bang for it's buck'. Sorry about the low meat quantities, but it's more meat that in a smartprice sausage and they manage to make them taste meaty?! :)

Also, when testing on hungry housemates, could you allow 250g potato, and 80g of 2 other veggies to go with the burgers and see how filling people think it is?

    Thanks for those figures.

Looking at them - it hit me straight in the eyes how much more flexible we are going to be able to be for the vegetarian family - it will make life a lot easier and the diet a good bit healthier. The prices of those meat meals are a lot higher than owt else on the menu and the fishcakes are still dear by veggie standards.

I shall be awaiting the vegetarian plan with interest:D

    Hi Weezl,
re: cheese quantity on the shopping list. No, I didn't add any deliberate increase, to account for usage or for any other reason. It's just that you had said earlier that the cheese weighed 809g (no specific weight appeared on earlier versions of the shopping list), but now it is listed as weighing approximately 1 kg. I wasn't sure whether the price would vary according to actual weight. Just mentioning the change, in case it was important.

I will leave the bread out entirely until you post a specific recipe so that it can be linked to the shopping list. Otherwise I will confuse myself! :-)

I hear you C :), but without the fish, I think the omegas will present a costly problem in their own right.... I wonder if, sadly that will eat up all the costs saved by the meat :(

Ah right! Yes I'm a bit surprised that mysupermarket lists it as 1 kilo... will check next time I'm in Asda.
