do people think you get less portions out of the reduced oil and sugar version? I'm just saying this because although I agree with the reduction of those ingredients if they aren't necessary, it would be a shame if the kids needed to eat twice as much to yield the same teenager runaround energy, which might hurt shirley's purse quite a lot
The original yielded 32 squares of cake measuring 2 ins by 2 ins with a height of 1 inch if that helps anyone to compare
Weezl - i think if you do it as a loaf you are bound to have less of it as you tend to have big slices (well i do) but in two flat cake tins i did get 32 squares, and i prob could have reduced the oil a bit too,
btw i want to send a big THANK YOU to Queen of String, that apple cookie recipe is lovely and sooooooo easy!!!Nonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

Thinks...shoulda got the tape measure out....
Well - as I've said...I missed out sugar totally and just substituted that with 3 teaspoons of honey and I cut it into 16 portions. I dont know obviously how many portions I would have cut it into if it had been that bit bigger because I had used the sugar as well...
Hmmm...the slices I did were I would guess 4" x 4" by a height of 1" actually. So I reckon that I musta cut slices twice the size of the ones you did in effect - hence half the number of slices.
I took a few to my parents for them to sample and there was no comments about the slices being too big. I know my parents well enough to know that there definitely would have been comments if they HAD thought the slices were too big. They will ALWAYS comment if they think the portions served up of anything are too big and make a LOT of comments about "modern size" portions being too big.0 -

and another not very relevant story but quite funny. My mum has fergie once a week now while I work. I'd said I needed her to get some labour bag essentials, and she went off to sainsburies. I remembered at work that I hadn't tested shirley's raisin and lemon pancakes. Texted mum, 'urgent do they have value raisins!' sadly they had run out
Later on I hear her on the phone to my Dad: '....well I'm not really sure darling but if she feels she needs to eat raisins during labour then I feel we must find them somehow!' :rotfl:

Not at one level you didnt maybe...but I'm a believer myself in the innate wisdom of one's body to decide what it needs. So - if given a chance - then it will ask for what is required.
I know I had a sorta "body analysis" thing in Chinese medicine recently and there was one specific food that was strongly suggested to me as appropriate for me - to which my reply was "I already add that to everything I possibly can:D at the drop of a hat".:rotfl:0 -
