    GISI :D

    8oz plain flour
    ½ tsp salt
    2 x tsps baking powder
    2oz butter or marge
    2oz caster sugar
1 med sized cooking apple, peeled , cored and coarsely grated
    4 tbsps milk
    To Glaze
1 tbsp demerara sugar (but you can use caster sugar)
    A little milk
    1. Sieve together flour, salt and baking powder.
    2. Rub in the butter.
    3. Add the sugar, then the grated apple and add enough milk to make a soft but not sticky dough.
    4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly. (I then wrap in a little cling film and allow it to rest in the fridge for half an hour not neccessary but I find it helps )
    5. Roll out to an 8 inch circle and place on a greased and floured baking sheet.
    6. Score the scone into 8 pieces.
    7. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
    8. Bake at 200c/gas 6 for 20 - 25 mins or until well risen and golden brown.
    9. Place on a cooling rack too cool.
It's from Cakes, Pastries and Bread by Jennie Reekie and this was the thread I was reading (but don't read if you don't want to bake cos you will be full of ideas and drooling by the end of it! ;) Weezl's weetabix cake got a mention too!)
  • Maz- sorry to be thick but where are you and William both sleeping at the moment? Do you use a sleeping bag?

Maz i'm no help I'm afraid. Since 11 weeks, C has been in our bed every night from 2am ish. Before 11 weeks she only woke twice a night and I thought we had struck lucky. OH has now been relegated to the spare room. Thats why I need to put her in her own room. It's just so hard :-(

ETA we tried: sleeping bag/no bag
Blankets rolled up either side so she felt more secure
    Swaddling slightly
    Heating/no heating
Hot water bottle in crib before we put her down
    Muslin over her face
Not tried sleeping on front but its not a position she likes when awake
    Erm...
By 2am I am just so tired, it's easier to bring her in with me.

Glam - you putting Jack in his cot/own room tonight? We starting with C on Sunday night (cos OH on lates next week and doesn't have to get up early - he up early at weekends for golf).

Anyone any tips for movin LO to own room? I'm dreading it. She moves right to the edge of her crib and sticks her arm through the bars to be near me at the mo (when she not in bed with me) and just thinking of her being alone makes me want to cry. Gonna give her the same bedding/sleeping bag and teddy. Any other helpful tips?

    Thanks

Oh NMS - we went swimming today. C loved it but had had enough after 45 mins so we got out. She was asleep before we got to the car in my arms - it's unheard of!!!

    Hugs to all xxx

45 mins is good, was it ducklings you went to? Liam always sleeps well after swimming :D We'll be there on Monday if you fancy it?

ETA: Not much help with the sleeping I'm afraid. We moved Liam at 8 weeks, it's only recently that he has begun towake in the night. Dare I say he is getting better now :)

thanks GISI, link to the Borscht recipe here, if you're interested. The chutney for the fritters uses the other half of the pickled cabbage, so you might like to make both to have less wasted ingredients?

Glad you liked all the [STRIKE]hairy daves[/STRIKE] nice parent club members :D

I would be happy to try both recipes :D. In the Borscht I would use vegetable bouillion instead of chicken stock which I guess would affect both the frugality and the taste, but I can give you my overall comments. Also, sorry if this is a silly q, but do you mean stir a blob of the I can't believe it's not butter into the finished soup? I will have to leave that out as I have a real problem with butter/margerine! It's one of my weirdisms but the thought of them is bleugh to me :owhich is why I can't have shop bought sarnies or owt.

Any tips for getting 8 week old to sleep in cot altogether where ever it is - I really want to sleep in my own bed !!!

Maz, is William in a moses basket or a full-sized cot?

Caitlin wouldn't settle in her moses basket at all and I was "sleeping" (not that I got much sleep) in the spare room with her whilst DH was in our room. In the end, it got too much for me when she was 7 weeks old and we put her in her cot in her room. She slept for 9 hours straight that first night! She'd never slept for more than 2 hours before that (apart from 4 hours one afternoon when she was three days old).
  • Thanks Elle- I like that it is one big scone! Sounds fab.

NMS - Monday should be good. Will have to do our 'homework' in the bath on Sunday lol. She didn't like the changing rooms though - screamed the place down before and after she was wet lol

Will try to get there early cos they turned people away again today - oh, did I say yes it was ducklings? lol

Choppy - you give me hope!!!!
