We have deleted two smilies
Comments
-
I just wanted to add my comments... a totally nonsensical act by MSE, removing the confused smiley/sarky smiley will not reduce the arguments. If anything, those with intent to wound, troll, etc will simply use nastier words. Counter productive.0

ive said it before and i will say it again
this site needs full moderators to sort all this stuff out
reports take too long to be actioned on and at times it obvious threads/posts are deleted without reading the full thread and in a kneejerk manner to a report
i moderate on another site so know its not easy and you will always put someones nose out of joint0 -

Good post NM, well said.

It feels like we are tenants here and the landlord comes round to fix a leaky tap,
But instead removes all your furniture because they don't like it.
Doesn't like the colour scheme you have, so paints the walls in colours they like,
and still doesn't fix the leaky tap.
The reasoning and explanation about the removal of the smilies is total nonsense,
I think we(members) all know that.
If there has been one mention on an abuse report about the misuseof the cconfused rolleyes(sarcastic) smiliesI will be amazed, and shocked if its more than 2.
Personally, I have never reported anyone for the misuse of smilies
I've probably reported about 500 - 1000 (maybe more?) posts/threads/users in my time on here for various things, but not for using smilies, I've reported and posted on 1000's of spam threads to stop abuse team getting multiple reports
Personally, I've replied to 1000's of newbies on DFW usually just a welcome, asking them a simple question, pointing them in the correct direction or going through their SOA
most of them included the banned smilies.
The best thing I can do is
just ask questions of the people that are helping me, while they are still on here.
MSE is becoming a very unwelcoming place , and it's not all to do with the members.
PS- fermi – I remember that forum design, the headache, eye strain, inducing totally unreadable version,
That was changed
Hopefully the nonsense of the last few days will be reversed.
When your in a hole stop digging (note to self and others)
Which is why i posted what did elswhere yesterday...............could have posted it here, but decided not too
I dont really give a dam about two smilies...........think i made it clear in my other post
But i think Martin needs to be carefull................
To quote the last line.............
If he is not......
He will end up with a forum full of questions, and no answers, as the answers come from those that dont need to stay, and i for one am considering calling it a day
I dont need treating like a child, by a guy younger than me, that, as far as i know, has not been thru a fraction of what i, and many other posters have.
I have no need to post here, but do so for free to help others, because i want too, or at least i did......
Now i am not sure........Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….0 -
Bat,
you are one of the posters I respect most
and one of the members MSE BR/DFW shouldn't lose and can't afford to lose
what you post to newbies and longstanding members is always good advice,
support and help
(with a few giggles along the way)
Who is going to be left to answer the questions?????
Unfortunatley I feel the number counters have been at work as they do in any company
and forget we are real people!
On a money saving note I won't have my computer on as much,

We've noticed that the two smilies in question that've gone were a very substantially disproportionate part of arguments, and disagreements. People interpreted them sometimes fairly, sometimes not, as nastiness or sarcasm and things blew up from there.
So will you be deleting these two smilies (:kisses3::kisses2:) in case they lead to online affairs and marriage break ups?;)

I don't think anything will happen sadly to change the minds of those locked away in MSE Towers, losing 2 smilies isn't the issue (because there are obvious alternatives such as  ) but the reasoning behind the decision and the stance of 'talk to the hand' when the reality is the problem won't be solved but the sensibility of this suggestion is falling on deaf ears."Stay Wonky":D

Neither do I.
But I do care about the reputation of a site I have become involved with, albeit in no official capacity.
MSE have made themselves look "foolish" over this (not just "silly" as Martin contends).
All that aside, I have noticed marked increase in nastiness across the boards.
This has not yet been dealt with properly. Deleting a few smileys is an absurd response. That is why I am upset.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh I never noticed that one, I'm gonna start using that now.:huh::huh::rotfl:Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.0 -
Thanks for all the replies folks.
I've read them.
I do find it slightly hard to believe that some people think the deletion of two smilies cracks mine and the sites credibitlity.
As noted - the abuse team believe these smiies make their life more difficult and create argument both in their use and interpretation that cause time and upset. So we've deleted them.
To be honest I find it quite difficult to take this seriously as some sort of scandal or issue - and have a lot more pressing things to get on with.
Im sorry if some people find my thought that I am listening to my team, and thinking a couple of smilies is low down my priorities list, is 'patronising'. If it is I apologise.
Yet this really has gone far enough - if it doesn't work - we've lost two smilies; no biggy - no one got hurt - it didn't cost anything. If it does marginally improve the system - then horrah.
The dislike has been noted and registered - now can we get back on with things please.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
