i'm all for consumer revenge, but directing insults at the "stupid" customer service advisors who are trying there best to get sales in order to stop the entire call centre closing and moving to India is a bit to far!

You don't need a call centre to activate cards. It could be done online or using an automated phone system (Capital One used to do this until they realised they could use the opportunity to fleece customers)
  • Sorry Marricked, but I don't mind the initial questions, it's when they harp on and on and on when I've made it perfectly clear that they're not going to get a sale out that annoys me.

You have some objection to the word 'stupid' - Which is more intelligent:

    1) Finishing up a call on a customer that clearly won't be buying anything to move onto the next customer, or

    2) Badgering a customer that clearly won't be buying anything?

And I don't buy the "they'll move the centres to India" line.

  • Our call centre at Teesside is actually on the brink of been closed, a call centre in Manchester and Northampton have all been recently closed, so it is happening!

"You don't need a call centre to activate cards. It could be done online or using an automated phone system (Capital One used to do this until they realised they could use the opportunity to fleece customers)"

That overrides the entire point im trying to get across, do that and they are even less jobs going for people!

I don't believe lying is justified to keep your jobs.
Why don't you get a proper job where you don't have to lie to people?
I'd rather scrub floors than try to rip people off.
  • Well you scrub floors then!

It's not about fleecing customers
The product is a good product allbeit just a bit expensive. It would really help the people who have absoultely no clue about identity fraud etc and they are out there!

However if the representative repeatedly tries to sell the product maybe more than 2 or 3 times then there would be cause for an argument.

Most people have a bad judgement about the big companies but the people working for them are there to do a job, just some don't do it in the right manner but that happens in anj job there is.
  • Corporate revenge is all well and good, but let's not needlessly take it out on the ones who are the puppets. Everyone needs to eat, and the longer they keep it up on the 0800 activation numbers, the more revenge you get ;)

Of course it is. It's about getting as much money from the customers as is feasible without breaking any rules/laws.

Well quite. Thought I wouldn't use the words "just a bit" - it is expensive - hence the fleece.

It's not that far back that PPI was being pushed in exactly the same way.
